Here’s a very short video featuring the Freedom From Religion Foundation’s staff attorney Ryan Jayne, who wrote the letter to the Charleston, Illinois’s city attorney pointing out that their sponsored trip to the Creation Museum and Ark Park was unconstitutional. They won within 24 hours, with Charleston canceling the trip. So where is my second “Censor of the Year” award?
PCC(E) makes a cameo appearance.

Odd, I did not see you mentioned in the email they sent out today. Oh well, you made the video.
You were signed up for the Ark Encounter trip? 😁
Not quite. But I saw the email from FFRF today and they had the Charleston outcome in there.
A National Treasure is Jerry Coyne!!!
It’s as if PCCE could also be an acronym for Prolific Clarification Communications Expert.😌
+1
This is a great result. What a relief. I’m wondering about a few things – if it’s in the previous posts I can go look there:
What was the job title of the “organizer(s)”, and what was their religion?
If the organizers had organized other religious trips that were separate religions e.g. Islam, why can’t they argue that there’s no promotion of any religion- they are all equally promoted?
What if the _community_ itself _voted_ among itself to go to the religious park? Wouldn’t that get them off the hook?
Lastly – sorry – what says the 1st amendment extends beyond “congress”, because after all it only uses to word “Congress”.
Thanks for any pointers.
I’m not aware of it having been argued, if it were then their failure to have already organised trips to major celebrations promoted by the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster (SBUHMB), the Plymouth Brethren, at least the top half-million Hindu shrines, and of course, sunny Mecca. The last would need to be the last, of course, because Islam has a “no apostates” policy, and the holy sites of Mecca and Medina have “no non-Muslims” policies around them enforced by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. I’d think very carefully before even trying to find a loophole in that one.
Well done Jerry and the FFRF!
He called you “illustrious!” Pretty cool. I hope you do get your second award. Maybe it will become the “Annual Jerry Coyne Censor of the Year Award”
Yes, the “illustrious” PCC. Pretty cool!
Well done Prof Coyne & FFRF
Nice to win for a change, especially in this climate.
