Trump on McCain’s death

August 26, 2018 • 12:30 pm

There was no love lost between these men, including Trump’s ridiculous 2015 statement, with respect to McCain’s captivity in Vietnam, reported at Politico:

“He’s not a war hero. He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.”

Still, a little humanity is in order. Trump didn’t say anything when McCain announced he was abandoning treatment for his cancer. When McCain died yesterday, Trump merely tweeted this:

Brit Hume responded:

Even Barack Obama, a Democrat, was gracious:

But get a load of this from Instagram (I’ve verified it):

This is, of course, all fake sentiment. The man doesn’t have an empathic bone in his body.

      1. When will the congressional Republicans he left behind lose their retractable spines and live up to the example they’re eulogizing McCain for setting?

They want to honor the man, let ’em stand up for something besides ambition and political expediency.

    1. They (tRUMPglodytes) keep lowering the standard limbo bar and his ample seat keeps burrowing a deeper trench.😬

  1. The best thing Trump can do is keep his trap shut really. His instinct will be asshattery, so if he can just stuff it that will pass as acceptable.

    1. McCain, I think, harbored some personally disparaging feelings toward Obama when they ran against each other — that Obama was a flash-in-the-pan who came to prominence without having to pay any hard dues. But McCain understood the importance to the nation of having its first non-white presidential candidate, and he acted accordingly.

I recall the last night of the 2008 Democratic convention when Obama received the nomination, that McCain didn’t run any of his own tv ads, and didn’t otherwise address the press, but instead took out his own paid television ad during the coverage to offer Obama a simple statement of congratulations. (Imagine Donald Trump doing anything remotely of the kind!)

And when McCain lost, he took care to do what he could to legitimize Obama’s presidency, both in his concession speech on election night, and during the early days of Obama’s administration anytime the two of them appeared at the same function. (Shame that Mitch McConnell and the rest of the Republicans in congress didn’t follow suit.)

Obama understood all this and always reciprocated McCain’s respect both during and after the election, even when the two were at odds on policy. I’m sure Barry will give a helluva speech at McCain’s funeral.

  2. Trump seems to have a direct pipeline from his so-called brain to his mouth, but does he have a brain? He spews garbage. It was bad enough that a man with bone spurs that prevented him from serving his country (multiple times) would belittle an American military hero for being shot down, captured and tortured. Too bad the Donald kept himself out of harms way. Although I, too, did not vote for McCain to be President, in hindsight, I’d gladly choose him in preference to T-Rump. McCain was a man of character and honor.

    1. “a direct pipeline from his so-called brain to his mouth”
The origin of that pipeline is *much* lower than that!

  3. I disagreed with McCain on many issues, but I never doubted that he believed that he was working for the good of the country. This is why there has been such an outpouring of bipartisan love for him. Trump works only for the good of Trump. When his time comes, he will die a lonely man and the only people attending his funeral will be his paid retainers and perhaps a few of his immediate family. In fact, I think Trump is very lonely now and has been this way his entire life. This is why he craves the adoration of his followers at his rallies and the momentary highs he gets in the pursuit of sex. But, when he leaves the presidency the crowds will disappear, and he will spend his days brooding alone in his apartment in Trump Tower or perhaps his prison cell.

  4. I suspect when Trump goes the grave digger will flip.

Actually, still trying to determine if he is a card carrying member of the Russian mob, Russian FSB (that’s the new KGB) or just a stooge. All the above work for Putin.

    1. Another subtle jab (which leads me to think this can’t be Trump doing it alone as he’s neither subtle nor bright): The White House flag has already been brought back to full mast.

  5. This asshole Trump has the flag atop the White House back to full staff (after the minimum “day of death and the following day” specified in the United States Flag Code for lowering all flags to half staff after the death of a congressperson).

The flag atop the Capitol, and elsewhere around Washington, DC, remain at half staff.

    Un-fuckin’-believable.
