Here’s a woman after my own heart. During Tuesday’s game between the San Diego Padres and the Atlanta Braves (Braves won 14-1), this woman caught a foul ball in her cup of beer, and then chugged it with the ball still in it!

I imagine that foul ball made for a foul beer, but I applaud her spirit nonetheless!
Made my day. Would that there were stadia full like her!
Lol! A woman after your heart. Mine as well. Cheers!
I’m skeptical!
But I still want to marry her though!
Definitely calling shenanigans on this one. You can’t see any spillage of beer or splash. Her beer is very neat and very full. Most significantly, you can hear the actual foul ball hit the roof. This group of fans was waiting for a foul to be hit in the (approximately) right direction.
I concur, Mr John W. Utterly.
Having had three kiddos play
this wondrous game and myself,
at their sidelines with the
game day – worksheet keeping
immaculate accounts of each one’s
play whilst at the same time trying
to balance a glassful, have
spilt many such. Totally or nearly
completely splashed … … empty !
Shenaigans quite. She with her posse
were awaiting such a deal. For thereafter it
exact and said attentions.

Curious, is it not, how persons wanna believe what it is that they wanna believe ?
Just cuz it makes them ‘feel’ better. EVEN if it is false.
EVEN if it is fake news. And, furthermore, … …
purposefully contrived and staged by
her / her colleagues in attendance.
… … ” ‘ found its way ‘ in to her glass ” in one commentary and this one
people.com/sports/baseball-fan-catches-foul-ball-in-beer shows that
the ball actually falls into the seats behind the man who then
suddenly and wildly, for all to see, points to her as if to infer, ” Now ! ”
Kinda like … … ah, a l l religions.

Even if that is true…
Well played, mystery lady. Well played.
Ms Gabby “chugger” DiMarco, reports:
– I am inclined to believe her.
Having downloaded the video, and played it in VLC, both slow-motion and single-framing – I can’t be 100% sure. It’s very hard to see the ball before the camera zooms in.
However, the ‘bong’ sound could be the ball bouncing off the partition beside her. I think the ball hits the rail just beside her (which would take most of the velocity off it, otherwise as noted beer would go everywhere) and bounces across into her glass.
I can’t be 100% sure of that without doing a lot more video fiddling but I think that’s an entirely credible explanation.
(Only other explanation would be that she *and* the people around her (because you can see their reactions, one from several seats away is leaning over and pointing at the ball) were all parties to a set-up and all acted their parts perfectly. I prefer to believe her.)
cr
After carefully stepping forwards and backwards frame by frame – the ball is very hard to see before the camera zooms in! – I think it’s genuine. I haven’t tried to match the ‘bong’ sound to a specific frame though, I could do it by timing the soundtrack with Audacity but it would be a lot of work.
The most visible thing moving towards her is a white flash – a couple of seconds too late – but that appears to be the white sock of a guy two rows behind who is stepping over the row in front of him, presumably intending to get near the ball. The ball itself is a very faint dot, if it is indeed the ball I’m looking at…
(How to step frame by frame? VLC has a frame advance but not a frame reverse which is technically very hard to do. Workaround – step through VLC and save each frame as an image. Then you can step through the images one at a time with any viewer such as Geeqie. Simple!)

Good work. Update to current VLC version & go to VLC ADD ONS:- Jump to time (Previous frame) v3 works as a backwards frame-by-frame control, but read the destructions & the comments so as to see how to make it exactly one frame.
Thanks for that, I’ll give it a try.

The first few seconds of her response, she’s wiping her face and chest.
Well, having just had a large (how big? 5cm, 4cm diameter for a rounders ball?) ball drop into it, the glass is now full to the brim, more or less. And even for American beer-excuses, it’s going to be foaming up too with the agitation which will also top the glass up to overflowing.
I was watching “Trainspotting” last night, and given the choice between her response and Begbie’s “over the shoulder” moment, I think I’d take her.
Probably 10 bucks for a beer at the park. Can’t waste it.
10 bucks can almost get a case of Milwaukee’s Best.
So, is that one pint of beer, or a half-pint?
I’d buy a case of Olde English 800 personally.
I may have to file for divorce.
Her name is Ginny DiMarco. She does not know it yet but she is my fiance.

Gabby not Ginny. I should remember the name of my future wife.
In cricket, it is legal to apply sweat and saliva to the surface of the ball in order to make each side different so it will curve through the air in flight. Is it the same in baseball? If not, does it happen anyway?
If the answer to either of those questions is yes, she probably shouldn’t be drinking that beer.
The alcohol will kill the germs. Let’s hope.
The so-called “spitball” has been banned from professional baseball, though it’s use is still legendary. Connoisseurs of the Art of the Spitter prefer to suck on Slippery Elm lozenges while on the mound, the better to achieve suitable lubrication.
I apparently part ways with everyone else on the planet, here, but… I think celebrating “chugging” alcohol is stupid and dangerous.
Me too.
+1

You’d probably not be a fan of the “green pint” then. It kills one or two people a year, but in terms of being visible natural selection in the 18+ age group of immortals, it probably saves more lives.
It’s official
Summer 2018 has begun
You wanna tell that to Heather Hastie or infiniteimprobabiliti or KiwiDave? 🙂
😎
Our summer lasted remarkably well till approximately Easter. Then it all just fell to pieces.
Not to worry, I’ll start posting smug little comments about the beach when you folks are freezing in December…
