Yesterday was the birthday of Official Website Physicist™ Sean Carroll, and he posted this photo on his Facebook page, which I have permission to display here along with its caption. Do note that there are two kittens in the photo (he and Jennifer are their staff). Can you spot both of them?
“I wouldn’t give a damn for a physicist if he didn’t have a cat.”
—Albert Einstein

Lovely photo. And great quote from Albert!
I made up the quote.
It did seem too good to be true, but I trusted you!
That would not be a good idea for something like this. . . .
This one is real
“The wireless telegraph is not difficult to understand. The ordinary telegraph is like a very long cat. You pull the tail in New York, and it meows in Los Angeles. The wireless is the same, only without the cat.”
Albert Einstein
Didn’t PCC(E) or Heather Hastie recently post a photo of that very verrry long cat? I’m sure I saw it, but can’t find it now.
And Happy Birthday to Sean Carroll. I say that in the Newtonian dimension.
I posted it, but I can’t find it either! Maybe it’s not in the Cat Tweets section?
I was going to ask does it have to be dead or alive or can it be in a superimposed state?
Sean Carroll is the best! I love this! I only found one cat.
Look on his chest.
After spending 15 minutes earlier staring at a gum tree searching for the nymph of a leaf-hopper, I’m surprised I missed this. I initially thought the black fur was part of the sleeve and gave up. Thank you! : )
Happy Birthday Sean Carroll! Love your kitten! 🐈❤️
Happy Birthday!
Can we have an integer to apply numerology to?
Damned physicists always looking for a little pussy. Give me an honest chemist every time.

Guy never seems to age. Must be a portrait of him somewhere over the event horizon showing the wear and tear.
Thanks Jerry! It’s an honor to be the OWP of WEIT.
A kitten is the road to ruin. Just ask Kink the Cat, or visit the Coyne-inspired KinkTheCat.com to see where this takes you.
Cat photo contests. (Kink a two time winner at WEIT!) Book deals, paparazzi, specialty cat food – endless.
Are you a cat person, they ask?
No, I am owned by a cat, I answer.
Kittens too seem to exist in two states: ordinary matter kittens and black matter ones.
so happy to meet you and the felines-
I just started reading “The Big Picture.” Don’t know if you read this Sean, but Happy Birthday!
I’m captivated by the beauty of cats but my wife says she doesn’t like them. She objects to their predator nature.
On the subject of beauty – why is it that most members of other species (particularly mammals) appear beautiful to us but “beautiful humans” are the exception?
My speculation is that the 100 million years we spent as hairy mammals tuned our brains to see nice, sleek fur as healthy and normal. Our aesthetic detection circuitry has not yet fully attuned to us losing all that nice fur.
“Our aesthetic detection circuitry has not yet fully attuned to us losing all that nice fur.”
That seems to me to be right.
A predilection for certain atavisms that were previously meaningful and still brought to life by our genes.
A belated Happy Birthday, Prof. Carroll.
I’ve recently started reading your lovely book, The Big Picture – On The Origins Of Life, Meaning, And The Universe Itself. Loved your previous book, The Particle at the End of the Universe.
I looked at the photo before I fully read the text, thought that Sean had a lot of cat hair on the bottom of his shirt, then realized that the hair was on a cat.
