I’m captivated by the beauty of cats but my wife says she doesn’t like them. She objects to their predator nature.
On the subject of beauty – why is it that most members of other species (particularly mammals) appear beautiful to us but “beautiful humans” are the exception?
My speculation is that the 100 million years we spent as hairy mammals tuned our brains to see nice, sleek fur as healthy and normal. Our aesthetic detection circuitry has not yet fully attuned to us losing all that nice fur.

I’ve recently started reading your lovely book, The Big Picture – On The Origins Of Life, Meaning, And The Universe Itself. Loved your previous book, The Particle at the End of the Universe.
I looked at the photo before I fully read the text, thought that Sean had a lot of cat hair on the bottom of his shirt, then realized that the hair was on a cat.
