I’m very stoked, as I’m approaching my Life Goal of 50,000 subscribers to this site. As of this morning, we have this:


At this rate, it won’t be long (perhaps by the end of the year), and then I can die a happy man. BTW, I’m not responsible for that odious word bl*g above.

  2. I guess you will do it honestly instead of like Trump who added a couple million fake followers to his twitter account the other day.

      1. Being he considers himself a major deity, he’s probably trying to undo the minor deities.

    2. Odd, I thought all of Trump’s followers were fake. What other kind does he have?

  4. I’m a sucker for wanting to make Jerry happy, but more than this, the posts here are important contributions to society–biology, public health, psychology, ethics, evolution, and more. In one venue or another, I don’t think a day has passed in two years where I didn’t have something of Jerry’s floating through my head. Thus, I’ve been promoting his website, telling folks to read and, when he mentions it, to subscribe.

    I’m a fan!

  7. I’m still clearly a newbie to this, how do you have just under 11,000 followers here and just under 50,000 on your site? What is this madness? 🙂

    1. Where are you seeing “just under 11,000 followers” Sam? Do you mean hits on this post perhaps not followers? [you write “here” & “on your site” as if two different places]

      I also note the dates on your WordPress site will [future tense] Dr. Who proud! 🙂 Nice pics BTW

When I am on WordPress reader, I see a different count to when I click ‘Visit Site’ and see the follower total on the actual webpage… Not that I want to take away from such an achievement, I just still have a lot to learn here. Thank you! However my apologies, I do not watch Dr Who however I want to know what you meant by that! Maybe I have had too much wine…

        1. I understand now. In WordPress reader I see “10,988 followers” & if I click unfollow & reload the reader the figure changes to “10,987”

          That number is only the people who follow via a WordPress account they’ve opened [I think]. Most people read here via other methods e.g I don’t follow in WordPress usually [but it puts me as a follower without my permission around once a week!] because I use an RSS reader – Inoreader in my case which is easier to manage because I can put non-Wordpress sites in there too. I usually read in Inoreader so I’m not always visible to WordPress.

          Jerry’s 50,000 followers is meaningless because followers aren’t all readers & readers aren’t all followers [Wordpress can’t see the latter at all] – around 25% of unique visits here are via Google for example & this site peaks at about 120,000 visits per month.           re Dr. Who: The dates on ALL your site’s posts is June 2nd 2017. I suppose a setting isn’t enabled somewhere

  10. It amuses me no end that you tell odious individuals to ‘f’ off and then ‘worry’ about getting to 50k followers. And fair enough it It is your ‘lounge’ and is to be respected as such. The more who crowd it the more encouraging it seems for rationality and reason, not necessarily but a good sign.

    1. Amusing it may be, but think about it. Some sites are not monitored in any way and become obnoxious slug fests. Not cool.

      Just below where it’s written “Join 48,xxx other followers”
      I suppose you enter your email address in the box
      And click the “Sign me up!” button below that box

      Voila

  15. I was excited to find my WordPress site has a follower the other day. When I clicked on the link to find out who it was, it turned out to be me.
