These are supposedly the 13 rarest breeds of cats. My favorites are the Burmilla, the Chartreux, and the Kurlian bobtail. (and the British shorthair is not to be sniffed at). The caracal, however, is not a cat breed, but a wild felid species, and shouldn’t be on this list.
Here’s a new Maru, part of which is appealingly titled “Sleeve cat under the buttocks”. The buttocks apparently belong to Hana, Maru’s companion who’s sitting on the sleeve.

Lagniappe:The “water cat cake”, from Bored Panda, is a popular kind of ‘mochi’ in Japan now. You can find the recipe here; it’s basically sugar, water, and agar. But you can mold it into cool shapes like this kitty:

Cats come in an amazing variety. I find most attractive, except the naked types. In selecting a pure breed, you’d want to make sure it was a relatively healthy type devoid of genetic issues. Your vet would likely have a good idea of a breeds track record is.
I just think natural born catties for me – Im really not keen on all this genetic tinkering for fancy breeds for the sake of humans and I bet its unhealthy for many of them

I’m not too big on cat breeds either, except I’d love to have a Maine Coon. And the bengal cats of Jerry’s acquaintance are great, as well.
Love those leaping kitten pics, especially the third one, Bug-a-Boo. Obviously that is the last thing you would see before you die. Vicious!
About a year ago, there were numerous stories in the scientific press about an anticipated shortage of agar. I haven’t heard so much about it recently – and I keep using a shitload of the stuff – but that won’t keep me from expressing my outrage over seeing this precious resource used to mold sweetened cats!
Over-harvesting?
That was the claim.
Caracals (‘rooikat’ here in SA) are not a rare breed of domestic cat, they are wild cats, not really rare (yet), but sadly still persecuted for their killing of sheep. Mostly they are completely innocent, btw, but they are perfectly capable to. I would not advise anyone to keep Caracals as pets.
