Good morning, and welcome to another week. Jerry’s busy today in Poznan (a very beautiful city, he reports), and will check in with us when he can keeping us up to date with the delectable comestibles.
Today, August 8th, is the day that Scottish photographer Iain Macmillan took that famous Abbey Road photograph of the Beatles that graced the cover of their album back in 1969.
And, because it’s fun, here are some others from that shoot.
So it falls to me to put up the Hili Dialogue this morning. I can relate to this all too well, having been urged ‘more forcefully’ on a regular basis by dogs demanding their daily walk. If you’ve never had a dog then you need to know: walks are Serious Business, more important than supper or bones or anything.
Cyrus: Are we going for a walk?
Hili: I’m ready but you have to urge them more forcefully.
In Polish:
Cyrus: Idziemy na spacer?
Hili: Ja jestem gotowa, musisz ich głośniej ponaglić.
And of course there is new documentation of the journeys of Leon as well.
Leon: I’m making plans.
And finally, in honor of that Beatles photograph, this is one of my favorite tracks from that album, Here comes the sun. It’s possibly a perfect piece of music.

“Here Comes the Sun” indeed.
I can (and do) play the main guitar part in that song and I love it. Always good for feeling happy. I’ve added faux-ukulele bits as intro and outro (the main guitar part is capoed at 7, so making it sound like a uke is easy) in honor of George, who wrote it and who also loved ukuleles.
If you haven’t seen the DVD The Concert for George, please do. It’s a wonderful line up playing his music for hours.
It’s kind of a preposterous profusion of talent, that they had Lennon, McCartney and Harrison as songwriters in the band at the same time. Has there ever been a greater concentration of musical brilliance in one band at the same time?
You should post your uke cover – sounds impressive.
I’ll see if I can come up with a decent enough recording. Impressive? Not too sure about that — mainly just fun.
Agree on songwriting with Lennon, McCartney, and Harrison. Ringo was pretty good too! (We play “It Don’t Come Easy”, fun song.)
A Sottish photographer eh? Drank a lot did he?
I don’t know. Possibly. Maybe.
Fixed, thanks.

Yes, indeed. That’s up next.

Leon being decisive about hogging the map. Very cat.
The placement of that song on the album is also perfect, immediately after the dark and foreboding (and drawn out) ending of She’s So Heavy. The opening notes of this song actually sound like the sun rising after a dark night.
Brilliant song, brilliant album!! Thanks, grania.
Brilliant song, brilliant album!! Thanks, grania.
My favorite version of Here Comes the Sun is by George
Benson. He slows it down and is accompanied by strings
only. It’s beautiful.
IIRC, that Abbey Road cover photo provided a key bit of “proof” that Paul is dead — what with him being barefoot, preceded by John and Ringo dressed as a mortician and funeral director respectively, and trailed by George in workingman’s garb suitable to a gravedigger.
“Here Comes the Sun” is my favorite “George” song from the Beatles’ catalogue.
There’s nothing as strange as folk.
Still, these celebrity death hoaxes still happen with regularity. It just doesn’t work very well in these days of Twitter where said celeb just has to issue a tweet saying “No, I aten’t”.

McCartney is actually wearing shoes in the other two photos although all 4 are otherwise dressed alike.
“Here Comes the Sun” is for me tied with “Because” as my favorite track on the album.
“Come Together” is my favorite on the album. On side 2, it’s “Bathroom Window,” though I’m a fan of the whole medley. I really like how the lads trade guitar licks in “The End,” especially John’s playing.
My favorite Beatles album is “Revolver”, my favorite Beatles LP side is side two of “Abbey Road”——and the two best songs from “Abbey Road” are by George Harrison.
Abbey Road side 2, contains that rara avis from the Beatles’ oeuvre, a Ringo drum solo — one that has always struck me as an abbreviated version of the infamous drum solo from Iron Butterfly’s “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida.”
Mean Mr Mustard…great album cover, possibly greatest ever.
It’s cool. Love the guitar part of the song very much. And the pictures of the cats and dogs are awesome. https://traindogblog.wordpress.com/2016/08/10/keep-dog-yard-without-fence/
