More trouble for Turkey?

Lord knows what this WikiLeaks tw**t means, but it can’t be good for Turkey, especially given the accompanying cartoon.

  1. Whatever you have stolen, sell it to WikiLeaks and everyone will know. Free enterprise, free press.

  2. A lot of Brits were afraid of Turkey’s entry into the EU before/during the referendum. I would assume that Turkey’s chances of entry are now pretty low. Its seems to be losing its secular identity and moving towards a totalitarian state (if it weren’t already). Mind you the UK is not a secular state either!

    1. There are few states that are not compromised in some way. The US IS a secular state, but you could be forfiven for thinking otherwise!

      Why has secular Turkey declined???

      1. Because of the pyramid of its society, only the narrow top is secular. The broad base wants Allah, mosques, headscarves, prayers, no evolution etc. In a recent post, Prof. Coyne portrayed the legacy of Ataturk as proving that Tolstoy was wrong to explain history by mass movements. I think, however, that Tolstoy had much right and Ataturk showed the limit of the reform you can impose on a nation from above.
