Today we will catch up with the latest photos (and a video) from Stephen Barnard in Idaho. First, he sent a video of his growing family of eagles. Fishfight! Stephen’s caption’s are indented:

This is the best photo of the Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) chicks I have.
This photo shows the size of the Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) chicks — nearly as large as the adult in eight weeks.
A couple a mayflies that have started to emerge on Loving Creek: Pale Morning Dun (Ephemerella) and Green Drake (Ephemera guttulata).
Beautiful shots. I envy you’re location there in Idaho. It’s like a naturalists wonderland.

Yes, I’m sure the Moose and calf are farther away than they appear.
If I were a Bald Eagle parent I’d be scared to disappoint my kids! They look like they wouldn’t really care, or even notice, if they were to take a chunk out of Desi rather than the meal he is carrying.
The chicks often grab the adults’ feet when they land without bringing a fish.
Hmmmm. Would it be possible – with a camera trap or something – to compare the growth of the antlers over the summer. If you can con the moose into holding the same pose at the same time each day that you’re out?
I was in the National Museum a few weeks ago for an exhibition on “Celtic” art (bling!) and my eye was drawn, repeatedly, to the mounted skeleton of an “Irish Elk” – the generic binomial says it all, Megaloceros !
