Friday wildlife: science gif “wildoff”

Matthew Cobb informs me that “Twi**er is having a #wildoff science gif competition. You can find the gifs here.”

I’ll put up a few of the more impressive ones, but go have a look at the many submissions.

Matthew thinks this one is the best. It’s damn good, but I always flinch at the sight of natural selection:

  1. These are amazing. Regarding the second one – there is something about inverts eating vertebrates that creeps me out. I thought we had a Great Chain of Being, for crying out loud!

  2. Just glad I wasn’t sitting on that beach when the kitty came by. Talk about your croc tears.

  3. There will be gator on the menu tonight. Guess GatorGod is sleeping on duty, but LeopardGod loves his sheep.

If the religious must persist with their faith, why can’t they just be capricious Paganists. It is the only explanation that remotely fits this behavior.

  4. “Head stabilisation FTW!”

    – Well it is good, but far from perfectly stationary, there are jerky movements of the head still.

  5. The hovering Kestrel is my favorite. I’ve seen the jaguar/crocodile clip too many times, and it’s out of focus.

    1. First for me on both, but I agree on the kestrel. It does a pretty seamless loop, for one thing.
