Oh my. I’m sorry to hear that. Same age as my gram who passed earlier in Feb. Nancy Reagan was someone’s wife, mother and grand. Her family will miss her.
Ho hum.
I like her son, Ron, quite a lot.
British people are already blaming Aaron Ramsey, the arsenal FC midfielder, for causing this.
Every time he’s scored a goal, someone famous has died
Does he score a lot of goals? (This is a perfectly innocent question and not some roundabout slur on him or his team.)

Her greatest contribution to our nation was in assisting her husband during his presidency with the valuable advice of astrologer Joan Quigley.

I guess she forgot to “Just say NO” to the grim reaper.
This afternoon on NBC, Joe Scarbrough – assuming he could discipline himself to tell it accurately – tried to get in a dig at Christopher Hitchens who, apparently commenting on Ronald Reagan’s lack of intellectual curiosity, had said words to the effect that Reagan could have invited any historian, philosopher, intellectual, etc. to the White House during evenings (I gather for Reagan’s edification) but apparently declined to ever do so.
Perhaps Reagan ought to have invited some such personage on the order of once/month. But beyond that, seems one ought reasonably expect and allow any First Family to have some quality time to themselves after a full day of dealing with political toadies. (Biographer Edmund Morris noted the change in Reagan’s demeanor whenever confronted with someone who wanted something out of him.) I have a clipping of a cartoon presenting the lioness Nancy ever-alert, standing guard, protecting the dozing lion, Ronnie.
She was given grief, regarding drugs, for saying, “Just say no.”
(That’s basically all it took for me; I resented having to learn about all manner of (recreational) drugs, to recapitulate on a test, for a bloody grade, in 11th grade “Health” class. I knew enough about them to leave them the well alone.)
Perhaps she should have said, “Just say no. But, if you are unwilling/unable to do so, I’m all for funding any and every government program to help you.”
Hate to seem crass but better now than in November.
An irrelevant woman.
Would you say most of us are irrelevant?
No, not in the scope of the lives we lead. She had a big stage and produced nothing of substance.
She raised Ron Reagan. That is something of substance.
If you believe that the credit for how children turn out is exclusively of the parents, that is.
Some of us manage not to become shits in spite of our upbringing, you know.
And others…
Actually, she was a significant woman. She was instrumental in converting RR into a sellable political product. Whether that was for better or worse, I will let others, and history, decide. But, either way, she was not irrelevant, except in the sense that we all are to the universe.
She, like her husband, certainly had their admirers, but I was not one. More of the strange bed-fellows of American politics.
Right now, of course, it is “the kiss of death” for anyone to say anything negative about her: six months down the road (maybe not, this being an election year) we’ll start seeing the articles on how she wasn’t the “Mrs. St. Reagan” we’d been led to believe.
I’m sorry she’s Died as much as I would be whoever Died, its always sad for the Family.
Amusing to read reports that they were both actors before he embarked upon his political career. They never STOPPED acting. I remember reading accounts by his children that Nancy used to put on her makeup and get back into bed in the morning before they entered her room, and I’m not the first to point out that HE was playing the part of President while at the White House, and hardly knew what was going on half the time!
