As I look out my window early this morning, I don’t see any snow: it fell a bit last night but the temperature was too warm, and it didn’t accumulate. Now it appears to be drizzling nastily, and here’s our weather for today:
It’s the right weather to drive people away from the Chicago Book Expo, where I’m having a conversation at noon about Faith Verus Fact. I blame God. Meanwhile in Dobrzyn, the weather is better but Hili is still fighting Andrzej for the ham in his sandwiches:
A: Apage Satanas!*
Hili: I can’t. I’m an invasive species.
In Polish:
Ja: Apage Satanas!
Hili: Nie mogę, jestem gatunkiem inwazyjnym.
*Malgorzata’s note-
Now, in case “Apage Satanas!” is not as popular among English-speaking people as it is among Poles: It means “Begone, Satan!” and it is a latinized version of Greek “hypage Satana”. It is used in exorcisms.

Avaunt thee, Satan…
It was 36 degrees Celsius today in Perth; we’re expecting the same tomorrow. You’re welcome to visit!
Get thee hence, Satan!
I’m terribly amused that ’tis Hili, and not Cyrus, who seems to be the bigger food hound there. 🙂
Invasive species do tend to get out of control. I do hope they can at least civilize Hili before it’s too late. Somebody has got to umieścić swoje stopy w dół (put their foot down).
Just up the road from you in Glenview we have about 4 inches or so of snow on the grass (not on the road). My phone tells me that it is snowing now and will continue until 3pm. My eyes tell me that my phone is telling porkie pies, at least in relation to “now”, skies are a heavy leaden grey, so who knows what will drop out.
Poor Andrzej! Hili handles dinner table invasion in a very ham-pawed way.
On second thought, maybe we could say they are both ham-handed.
It is -7C right now in BC, Canada.
I am unhappy.
We had one day of beautiful snow. It rained and now its just been cold.
Invasive species. Hadn’t thought about that but true – invades every drawer, and chair and even the clothes drier.
Garbage cans
The wood stove
The oven
The toilet
The shower while I’m showering
…our hearts….

Greek scares the devil just like it sometimes scares me!
God sent the snow north to us in Milwaukee. But so far he hasn’t dropped a whole lot. Probably isn’t in the spirit yet.
Too bad about your weather. In central Michigan we got the perfect first snowfall – heavy and wet and too warm to stick on the roads, but coating every tree branch.
If I decided to say “Apage Satanas”, how would I pronounce it correctly so I do look like an idiot when I use it? I can look like an idiot all on my own thank you without the extra help 🙂
See how easy it is for me. D’oh! That’s DON’T look like an idiot. Oh, man. I wish we could edit posts…..
