I’ll be appearing on KPCC (a Southern California Public Radio Station) live today; the show is AirTalk with host Larry Mantle, and the topic is, as usual these days, the issue of faith versus fact.
The time is approximately 2:30 pm Chicago (Central) time (it could start as late as 2:40), 3:30 pm EDT (i.e., time in New York), and 8:30 pm London time. You can listen to it live here.
That shall be 3:30 EDT (Daylight), not 3:30 EST (Standard), pls verify.
Yes, I guess so. I always call it EST.
Thank you! I’ll certainly tune in!
Here’s a blurb about the interview — with a nice photo of Our Esteemed Host wearing the Hili Shirt!

Great! I’ll tune in for sure. KPCC is my local public radio station and pretty much the only radio i ever listen to.
It’s not obvious…will it be archived so we can listen not-live? I’m not sure I’ll be near an Internet feed at the time….

Yes, the shows are archived .. http://www.scpr.org/programs/airtalk/
I nearly fell out of my chair laughing when a caller asserted there’s no evidence for evolution.
🙂
Me too — I thought, “Funny you should mention evidence!” The interviewer dumped that caller quickly but considering there were probably more than a few listeners who think that way, it would have been worth pursuing the line of questioning.
I could never be so even-tempered as Prof. CC — I would blurt out something like “childish superstition” in the first two minutes!
Horribly rushed interview and with poor questions from moderator and callers. Sorry Dr. Coyne.
I listened. Exciting talk. Went so fast!
Great job Jerry!
I love the way you maintain such a genial calmness in the face of having every possible trite trope trotted out about why religion is so vital. (God, those comments! WEITians could have had such a super drinking game with them…)
Really didn’t like the host with his laundry list of most of the same tropes and his “hurry up and answer” pressure.
The important thing is whether you sold a lot of books–I’m betting that answer is an emphatic yes!

Well said, Diane G. I felt similarly.
Plus, I like your “trite trope trotted” triplet 🙂
Some call those P.R.A.T.T. arguments — “previously refuted a thousand times”.
Ooh, that’s a good one, thanks!
I listen to Larry Mantel during lunch at work while eating at my desk and visiting this website. It was a pleasant surprise hearing you, I get now to put a voice to your pictures. I was a bit embarrassed by some of the calls from this area though.
I thought that was a good interview. Yes, Mantle seemed to rush you, but it was still good. I liked one of your final points: yeah, sure, religion will TRY to answer why questions, but it never really does because the “answers” differ from religion to religion. Very good.
