Neil Shubin wins “Friend of Darwin” award

I’m pleased to announce that my colleague Neil Shubin, paleobiologist, developmental biologist, and of course a co-discoverer of the “fishapod” Tiktaalik, has won the National Center for Science Education’s “Friend of Darwin” award. There’s an announcement on PuffHo by NCSE director Ann Reid, recounting some of Shubin’s achievements.

  1. I saw Darwin Award and I thought something happened to Mr. Shubin. I am glad he is alright. 🙂

Both his book and series are excellent. Congratulations Neil.

  2. Read his book. It really helped put things together for me (understanding evolution). Also enjoyed the PBS show.

  3. Thanks Jerry and commenters.

So pleased I won a Darwin Award without performing the usual “making toast in the bathtub” kind of activity.

  4. Congratulations Neil Shubin! You deserve every bit of that award. I loved your book, and adored the Netflix series. Absolutely brilliant!

  5. Good news! Saw the series, loved the series, and found out that some friends had learned the “one, two, lots of bones” leg-and-‘pod’ trait.

I suggest “fishapods” as honorary cat fish, cute and smart. (Since They Made It. Well, at least some did.)

  6. Congratulations to Neil; I hardly need to restate that Your Inner Fish is destined to remain one of the major additions to the popularization of evolution.
