Hili Dialogue: Thursday

February 26, 2015 • 4:37 am

And so the week passes, with one more day till Friday, the day when we all must choose our seats. Leon and Elzbieta have returned from their Big Hiking Trip, and, in Dobrzyn, it’s business as usual for Hili the Three Jar Cat:

A: Did you eat everything?
Hili: Everything was not enough.

  1. Everything was not enough. Who knew cats did deepities! Better than humans do!

I am reminded of a quote from Stephen King’s autobiography slash style manual slash writing methodology (spelling out the slashes because Stephen King) On Writing, from a chapter in which he told the harrowing tale of his struggles with addiction. A friend of King’s had told his physician that he (the friend) might have a drinking problem. When the friend’s doctor asked how much he drank, he replied “All of it.”

So that phrase became an inside joke between me and my BFF, anytime things were overwhelming or absurd in our lives (which back then was most of the time). All of it. Just, all of it.

    Everything is never enough! Indeed.

Sounds like the title of a James Bond film.

  2. When I was very young, when Mom and Dad would ask, for example, how much syrup I wanted on my pancakes…I would reply, “Too much.”

I must have been channelling Hili in advance.
