Over at Sandwalk, Larry Moran is rightfully incensed at creationist flack Vincent Torley, and they’re having a kerfuffle: Torley’s unjustly accused Larry of not thinking that natural selection had a role in the genetic divergence between apes and humans. Torley has apparently apologized.
Now, in a new post about the flap, Moran makes the best Freudian slip I’ve seen about ID creationists. Here’s a screenshot:
I’m sure this is unintentional because Larry deliberately avoids nasty language and slurs.
And I’ll have to define Freudian slip here: “It’s when you say one thing and mean your mother.”
I’ll be here all week, folks.

Larry is a fiend of yours, no?
😀
With fiends like these, ….. (nya nya nya)
…who needs anomalies?
Slaínte.
🙂
No, no — “With fronds like these, who needs enemas?”
b&
Nice, as it fits well with the indelicate “load of crap” phrase in Larry Moran’s first sentence quoted above. (hehe)
With fiends like these, who needs frenemies?
Finding genomes: these plays on words are entering Ant Allan territory. Cue Ant for summat completely obscure…
Slaínte.
Peter Cook & Dudley Moore sketch Father & Son –
“Friends! Friends? I call ’em fi-ends! They’re nothing but a pack o’ whoo-ers!”

Hehe, to really test whether cdesignproponentists “are liable to be swayed by emotion rather than reason” you have to watch their reaction to the bonobo-pig hybrid/backcross hypothesis. That really makes their heads asplode!
LOL. Had to google that. Who knew?
My bad, I should have added a link to Michael Lewis hypothesis for those who haven’t seen it.
Oops, Eugene McCarthy, not Lewis.
From the article linked:
“That can’t be right, because I don’t already believe it.”
Great line.
“I’m sure this is unintentional because Larry deliberately avoids nasty language and slurs.”
Yet in spite of that he still comes off as cranky to me. His, uhm, “website” isn’t as warm and friendly as WEIT.
Yeah, but I quite like that. Even so, he doesn’t ban repeat creationist trolls that pop up and make the same damn comments over and over again – he’s letting them flaunt their lack of understanding even when he must find them excruciating.
Whilst Larry is often all wet, I’m sure I’m not alone this time in wanting to tank him for not dunking this deep subject.
b&
Sorry, it’s a pet gripe, so I am compelled to say something (even though it makes me into a boring, old pedant)…
There is no c in ‘flak’.
Unless my sarchasm detector is broken, you might want to check your dictionary. A “flack” is a publicity agent. “Flak” is antiaircraft fire.
b&
Flak = Fliegerabwehrkanone
See, everything makes more sense in German!
Gesundheit.
b&
Sorry, pal, but you’re wrong. See here:
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/flack
“Flak” without a “c” is the stuff they shoot at planes. A factotum or publicity agent is “flack” with a “c.”
So, old pedant, admit that you’re wrong!
If this person is a baritone, would he sing the Largo al Flacktotem?
b&
I always thought that ‘flack’ was the sound of a dyspeptic duck.
Ah! Never heard of the word ‘flack’, meaning publicity agent. Hardly surprising, as it’s a North American word, and I’m a Brit. I naturally assumed you were referring to someone who sends out metaphorical flak.
(So, no, I’m not admitting I’m wrong at all. Just British.)
Q. How many Freudians does it take to change a lightbulb?
A. Two. One to change the bulb, the other to hold the
penisladder.Just laughed out loud!
Me too!
That joke earns you a
cigarcigar.Heh! 😀
Hehehe; even a spell checker wouldn’t have helped Larry discover the invisible R. It’s just one of those (un?)fortunate coincidences.
I hope Larry won’t have to make a pubic apology 😀
We have all been there. Just the other day I was teaching about protein translation and I drew little clover-leaf shaped tRNA molecules carrying amino acids. Only the tRNA definitely looked like doodles of male genitalia, so we all had a laugh over it.
I really hope it did not have some deeper meaning…
Creationist Fiends needs to be the name of a band.
Anybody musical?
I don’t know; I’d say that throwing in the word ‘damn’ before fool takes it to the level of slander & nasty language a bit, but alrighty then…
“It’s when you say one thing and mean your mother.”
Sounds like a Woddy Allen line to me!
WOODY! Oh dear… go back to sleep!
Heh, heh, he said “Wood!” Heh, heh.
“I’m sure this is unintentional because Larry deliberately avoids nasty language and slurs.”
Like IDiots?
