Reader Brian sent two pictures of his girlfriend’s Maine Coon cat, which found an appropriate place to sleep.
First look at the pictures, which are a bit misleading (click to enlarge.)
The explanation:
The background here: my girlfriend had a 1944 dollhouse that she grew up with, and acquired bits of ‘furniture’ to make the experience more real. We were just down at her mom’s place for the holidays and, feeling nostalgic, she set up the bedroom. Her cat, Sunny, being the quirky thing that she is, finds new things interesting and manifests this curiosity by lying on them. These pics capture that moment: a small doll house bedroom with a gigantic Maine Coon, head resting on the pillow and everything. The first pic caught her getting comfortable, with her tongue just sticking out of her mouth.

Not misleading at all – my instant reaction to the pictures was “dollhouse”.
Neat cat, BTW. L
It would be complete if there was a tiny human-shaped catnip-filled chew toy to go in the picture.
A small doll house? That is a HUGE doll house if it can accommodate a Maine Coon Cat this way! My doll house would have accommodated a mouse, at best. 🙂
My sister’s dollhouse accommodated my escaped treefrog for a week before he was found reclining in the little doll bath. No cellphone cameras back in those days but I remember my sister laughing so much she couldn’t talk, and just pointing at the dollhouse.
My thoughts exactly!
I think the doors, window, and rear cabinet along the walls are pictures. Neat that the foreground furniture matches the picture furniture in the background.
You have a keen eye. I didn’t notice that. However, did you also notice that the first pic is actually the second. I will leave it to you to figure out why.
Um…stuffed d*g knocked over?
You two are quite observant. 😀
Look at the tiny plush cat!!! Or is it a d*g? Anyway, great photos!
And a great dollhouse too!
I’ve always had a fascination for miniature houses. There’s a particularly good one in the nearby Dandenong Ranges in a place called Sassfrass. It’s on display in a glass cabinet. Three stories with balconies, and full of detail.
I’ve always wanted to build one for when the grandchildren come along. We have our first due in mid 2014, so I’d better get a hurry along.
When I was a kid in the UK, we lived about 20 miles from Wimborne Minster where there was this marvellous model town. It fascinated me (almost) as much as model railways. It’s apparently been relocated but still exists.

My father built one for my daughter when she was a little girl. She’s 22 now. The dollhouse will be a much loved heirloom.
He also built a small table with a lazy-Susan type top, so that the house could be rotated to show its “outside”–porch, steps, etc.
Wonderful photo op, Brian!
Sunny knows what she likes. 😀
I did not realize at first that it was a doll house, and it was really scary for a moment.
Clifford, the big red cat!!
