Boot weather!

October 11, 2013 • 3:24 am

When the acorns start falling, to the delight of the squirrels, it’s time to don a light jacket—and cowboy boots.

Here’s a virtually new pair, bought for a song on eBay, made by the estimable firm of Tres Outlaws (also known as Falconhead) in El Paso.  They have tall tops (14 inches; the usual is 12) and nice burgundy stitching to match the oxblood leather. I also like the square toes.

Can you guess the hide? It’s tough but comfortable. (Click photos to enlarge.)

    1. That’s my guess too–some part of the ostrich that isn’t the leg and isn’t full-quill.

      1. They are a very attractive pair of boots. The slight quill texture is a much more interesting visual than full quill.

  1. Nice!

How about … slow-running creationist? (Just KIDDING!)

How about shark (lower part) and cow (upper part)????

      1. From the link:

“…while Burke took the blame and was sentenced to death. What awaited him at the end of the rope was much worse than even he could imagine. ”

Hardly think anything that happens after you’re hanged really matters much… 😉

  2. On the subject of boots: back in July I went to the Oxford Playhouse theatre here in the UK where Sir Patrick Stewart was on stage being interviewed about his work as a Shakespearian, and Star Trek, actor. The second person to ask a question from the audience felt compelled to congratulate him on his choice of footwear. Apparently after initial scepticism he’s become a big fan of cowboy boots. Has three pairs (Bought from some place in Nevada). “They make you feel more manly” he said. Praise indeed!

    1. Like that line in “London Homesick Blues”

      Them Limey eyes
      They was eyein’ a prize
      Some people call manly footwear…

  3. Talk about weather — it got cold last night here! I think it might have even dipped into the 50s outside overnight — though I couldn’t tell you for certain as I huddled beneath a pile of blankets in bed. Well, okay, one single blanket — but still! Blankets! (Blanket.)

If it gets any colder, I expect we’ll see migratory penguins. Why, I might even have to shut the windows at night!

    Cheers,

    1. Now now, Ben. Just because Professor Ceiling Cat chooses to live in an area with a climate that mimics Pluto doesn’t mean you should tease him about it.

      1. Oh — that’s right. He lives in one of those places where the atmosphere sublimates directly to solid form and forms white piles on the ground….

  4. Pretty spiffy Jerry, whatever they’re made of. I’ve always been a fan of boots myself 🙂
