Hili Dialogue: Sunday

September 8, 2013 • 12:41 am

Today’s Hili Dialogue features Hili’s new toy, which she loves (she ignored the catnip mice I brought her):

Hili: I’ve never met such a playful scientist.
Jerry: A scientist should be inquisitive like a cat and always ready to play.

Indeed!
Here’s the dialogue in the original Polish (Hili is of course a Polish cat):
Hili: Jeszcze nigdy nie spotkałam tak zabawowego naukowca.
Jerry: Naukowiec powinien być ciekawski jak kot i zawsze skłonny do zabawy.

  1. Given that I have the post election blues from Australia, I’m enjoying your play too. Rupert Murdoch’s papers were so blatant – and the media is our biggest threat to democracy.

    1. As some vaguely on the (sensible) “right”, I cordially disagree. Murdoch’s papers don’t set the agenda, they merely reflect the agenda of their readers. If there was more money/readers in being “left-wing”, Rupe’s papers would turn in a heartbeat.

      1. I couldn’t agree less. For as long as I’ve been politically aware he’s been pushing a line that varies from year to year. He doesn’t follow his readers, he tries to bludgeon them along the path that suits him at that moment. I despise him.

  2. How old is Hili? My cat, Poes, who looks very much like Hili and is now about 3 years old, used to play also a lot when she was younger. Now she seems to play only to do us a pleasure, but she tires quickly of the game. I suppose that being outside and chasing butterflies or bumble bees is a lot more exiting for her.

    1. There is a Polish saying:

      Głupi czyta, bo ciekawy.
      Mądry pisze dla zabawy.

      The stupid one reads because he is curious.
      The wise one writes for fun.

      zabawa means fun.
      zabawka = toy
      zabawiać = entertain

      So “tak zabawowego naukowca”
      would mean “such a playful scientist”
