International Cat Day: Readers’ cats

August 13, 2013 • 4:17 am

Here’s installment #3 of pictures readers sent in to honor International Cat Day.

Reader “Teacupoftheapocalypse” sent pictures of his/her two cats, Monkey and Merkin.  First Merkin, then Monkey:

Reader Diane G. also has a pair, with a caption:

“What?  You mean every day isn’t World Cat Day?”
–Winston, lower left, and Halle-Bear.

Winston and Halle-Bear

It makes me very sad when readers send in photos of their late cats, invariably adding how awesome the moggies were. This is from reader Fred M., whose cat passed away just a few months ago.

The late, and dearly missed,  Salsa (January 1st , 1999 – June 1st 2013). We will not forget him.

  1. Awww all great cats and I’m sad about the late cats too. Salsa looks like a very dignified kitty. I’m also impressed and jealous that Diane G’s bookshelf is so dust free and neatly arranged.

  2. I have a soft spot for torbies and Halle-Bear is lovely. I note that next to the nice clean cat tower and well-groomed cats is a book called “GERMS”, LOL!

Beautiful photo of Salsa. I photograph black cats all the time and appreciate the difficulties. Such photos are sad, but when they show a cat that was loved and cherished, as this kitty was, they offer comfort and hope as well.

  3. Winston is a magnificent kitteh. They all are, mind you, but Winston is especially magnificent.

    1. Nope, Winston was a pound rescue, and Halle-Bear (and my daughter’s cat, Cheley (pronounced [‘keely’]) showed up 9 or 10 months later.

Must be just that they happen to have a similar pose and gaze. (Have you any idea how difficult it is to find a shot of two cats in which one isn’t facing backwards or grooming something personal?)

(Cheley, aka Cheley Monster, is a tortoiseshell, so she was named for the Chelonia. But of course no one ever knows how to pronounce it.)

  4. Kind of a surprise to scroll from sweet looking Merkin to zany Monkey. 🙂 Great shots!

Oh, I’m so sorry about Salsa, Fred M. What a lovely portrait.
