Cat and owner swim for their lives

Here’s a heartwarming story sent by alert reader Iggy to end the week on a happy note.

The photo blog of NBC News has the story and photos of a Candadian man, Kevan Yeats, and his cat Momo, who were overtaken in Yeats’s truck when a river in Alberta overflowed.  The truck went down, and both had to swim for their lives. The photos are quite dramatic:

  2. What an ordeal! Fortunately, it seems that Momo the cat is fond of water and swims in the bathtub. I like the way the sequence of photos appears to show the cat moving faster than its owner.

    1. A dog might have stayed around to see if his owner was okay, this cat though headed right for shore…everyone for themselves! When you only have 9 lives, you can’t waste one on someone who got you into this mess to begin with.

  5. This is a good news story. Southern Alberta is being ravaged by a major flood right now taking out roadways, bridges and houses in several towns.Calgary itself is under water and has had about 75,000 people evacuated. To give sports fans an idea of the damage, the Saddledome arena (home to the NHL Calgary Flames) has filled up to row 10.

  6. They’ve got contingency plans to temporarily relocate several of the big cats from the Calgary zoo to cells at the courthouse.

    The cross Canada highway is flooded out. Huge mess. Nice to see these guys made it.

    1. The courthouse? That could be fun. “You have been found guilty. There are three doors in front of you. One is the exit, one leads to the jail, and behind the third…is a lion! Choose wisely.”

  7. We could have a thought bubble competition in terms of the cat’s perception. ‘I told him, Big Julie don’t go!’ ‘Now that’s another fine mess you got me into.’ …….

    1. Or as someone once told my young daughter and her friends, “Why don’t you go back to Canadia?”, after losing an argument.

  9. I moved away 6 months ago (from Bragg Creek)to the big city in the East, I really miss the place, but not today. My friends are still OK but busy storing clean water, it’s likely not long before the city water becomes contaminated

  15. 100,000 people out of their homes, one of Canada’s major cities brought to a standstill, billions of dollars in damage, two towns completely destroyed, drinking water quality in Calgary UNIMPAIRED !!!!! ( can you imagine the work and dedication THAT took?) and we get ” a river in Alberta overflowed”. And by the way, “yay Momo”
