‘Don’t try this at home, folks’. Rudi Elias takes his cat MJ around Philadelphia on his bike. MJ seems pretty happy, but I know that Ollie and Pepper would hate it if I put them on my back.

WINNER! OMG! I love this man and his kitty. True love–and more important, true trust by the cat. This is what it is all about for me! Blessed be Rudi! Blessed be MJ–Blessed be! : D
What’s a blessed?
It’s my slang for may all the goodness in the universe fall upon them. π
My Smokey will ride on my shoulders sometimes, but the way he hangs on can be painful, especially with a thin shirt. Plus, he weighs 15 lbs.
Sounds like Smokey should be doing the pedalling:)
A former roommate of mine had one of those big heavy cruiser bikes that had a basket on the handlebars where her kitty liked to hang out. I don’t know that she ever actually took him out riding with her, but the potential was there…
i can just imagine the rivulets of blood down my back if I tried this with my cats π
Baihu spends a lot of time on my shoulders exactly like that…but I’d never take him on a bike unless he was fully secured. He’d be too likely to spook and seek cover.
But when we’re out on walks, he alternates between on my shoulders, trotting beside me, and me carrying him.

“Heβd be too likely to spook and seek cover.”
This.
Its why I have a hard time enjoying the video. I see the guy with the helmet and the precariously perched kitteh who could be launched into traffic accidentally (or bolt when spooked) at any time.
Just imagine some kids driving by who thought it’d be hilarious to throw some soda on the cat….

I lived in a place where it was common for teenage boys with nothing else to do to go cruising with a slingshot and a handful of pennies (I was hit with one once). Sadly, this would have been the ultimate target.
Actually, kitteh didn’t look too precarious, nor did he look as if he was likely to be spooked. He looked quite relaxed about the whole performance.
But yes, if there was a crash – well, actually, I’d expect kitteh to come out of it better than his ‘owner’.
I won’t make any negative comments about cats, but cycling to work one day I did encounter a chap on a bike being towed by two dogs – he wasn’t peddling. There was a third dog running free on the other side – *my side* – of the cycle path. I avoided a collision but was mightily annoyed at this guy, although he was demonstrating how useful dogs are.
OK, this isn’t directly on point, but in the spirit of all things catly: http://bgr.com/2012/10/25/chrome-extension-blocks-political-facebook-twitter-messages/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
I used to ride around the neighborhood on my dirtbike with one of our Shetland Sheepdogs sitting on my lap / on the tank, with her feet on the handlebar crossbar pad. She just loved having her face in the wind, which brought her lots of new & interesting sniffs…
When I was a teen, my cat, Worthless, used to sprawl across my shoulders as I rode my bike (he was much larger than this kitty). I didn’t ride in traffic with him though.
Amazing! I wonder if this kitty was something else in its last life? π Seems to be a natural!
Love it!

My nephew’s miniature Schnauzer sits on my shoulder.
Granted, whilst sitting, or ambling about the the house, but still.
