Why Evolution is True is a blog written by Jerry Coyne, centered on evolution and biology but also dealing with diverse topics like politics, culture, and cats.
The “Bat Party Games” is by Mark Parisi, and it’s from his syndicated panel comic Off The Mark. I’ve never met Mr. Parisi, but have corresponded by email, and have had the honor of having several suggestions turned into published comics. I highly recommend his warped humor.
Thanks for those links! Having grown up elsewhere the second pic was totally lost on me until I looked up the game at the repository of all human knowledge, and enlightenment followed.
It’s a miff, no not a miff a miss, no, a mith no that’s not it either. You know, one of those things that are false but christians believe and worship?
Bats are not blind. Most bats can see as well as humans. Fruit bats have eyesight that is adapted to low-light, much like cats. Fruit bats also see in color.
Even more than missing Gary Larson is that he doesn’t have a site where you can browse them. I had to buy the complete works, but at least got a good discount from a Goodwill store via Alibris (the former of which, AFAIK doesn’t carry the trappings of the Salvation Army).
I didn’t know Gary Larson was dead.
Oh, retired. One of the few – most cartoonists I’ve heard of keep pen in hand until they’re found slumped over the drawing board.
Wait.
Cats ask if things are for them?
b&
No, not really.
But if they reject it, you are allowed to pretend that they asked first.
Ah — good to know. It might help me pretend to retain a bit of my dignity….

It’s an internal dialogue.
I like how the cat makes decisions! Quite a cheeky cat

Since echolocation would not be a great help in Pin the Tail on the Donkey, I wondered, just how blind are bats?

Agreed – I bought his calendar every year, and would love to collect some of the classics.
Thomas Nagel would NOT get this…
