What this guy really needs to do is get his own cat. A large agro male with a take-no-prisoners attitude. He will at least cut the number of cats pissing on his car from 9 to 1!
The most territorial cat I’ve ever seen was a smallish female (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/191/p1000016g.jpg/), who chased away a dog many times her size after bursting through a screen door, not to mention every other cat in the area (all of them larger than her).

I think it would be easier to get the cats neutered, as they should have been in the first place. Still hilarious though.
Yes. However I have to say that neutering doesn’t always stop the problem. My little speyed Tonkinese used to stare implacably at me as she sprayed on the laundry wall. Her brother wasn’t any better and he was neutered.
Cats are weird, utterly individual and hilariously funny while being the best companions. Bloody cats!!

The video wasn’t entirely serious – ‘At this point it’s good to grind something ‘cos it looks good on video’. Nicely observed. But why do all the neighbourhood cats come and piss on this particular car? My theory – it’s a Mitsubishi (but I’m biassed) 😉
Personally, I found the bird getting blasted was the most satisfying – my car doesn’t suffer from cats, it suffers from birds apparently the size of turkeys that roost in a tree and take off right over my parked car, bombing it as they do so. Some sort of do-it-yourself anti-aircraft missile would seem to be needed.
I am biased also – my mechanic son calls Mitsubishis – BitsAreMissing.
I have had problems with birds. In Oz. it was the Magpies and my beautiful resident Butcher birds, here in Scotland it is the flying rats that my neighbour thinks are cute and lovingly feeds. All 21 of the b…ards. All focused on our two cars. All full of bombs! Aarrgh.
A *great* 1080 video, but rather than taking his car door and alarm system apart for the 12 volt solenoid and actuating system [not easy], maybe he should have checked out ebay (or even some plumbing stores). No need then for coopting the hose sprayer as well. But hey, exaptation works!

And a solid state relay from Radio Shack connected to the motion sensor would drive it, along with yes, a car battery or just a 12 volt battery charger to supply the amps needed.
These components would cost maybe $50, but seeing that he has a $3500 camera [Canon EOS 5D], I’m sure he could well afford it.
Why mention these options? Cause there may be others out there that would like to experiment in a like manner.
And kudos to Craig for a resourceful use of existing parts for a new function, similar to how evolutionary processes appear to work, with or without the possibility of ‘directed intervention’!
