The roolz redux

April 24, 2011 • 1:04 pm

As I’ve mentioned in the comments, a popular uprising has forced me to reconsider my position and to alter the roolz.  You can now put a link to your anonymous (or pseudonymous) website in your posting name.  I like people using their real names when possible, as I think this makes them more accountable for their words, but I recognize that there are sometimes good reasons for not doing so.

kthxbye

  1. JC has lost control of his own site. Nice. 😉

    I’ve never said anything as “daveau” that I wouldn’t say to anyone’s face as David Richards. I don’t have a site or a blog, but if I did, I would still be daveau.

    1. Or perhaps the point is that it would make me more accountable for my jokes by allowing people to come to my apartment and play a muted trombone at me.

      *peers out his window nervously*

  2. Thank you sir, it is much appreciated. Some of us can’t be open without risk to the comfortable lifestyle we have grown accustomed to. And as far as accountability, some of us are in a situation where we or our loved ones might be “held accountable for our words” online by being attacked by theist co-workers.

    You can all rest assured that I am not going to abuse my pseudonym for evil, or create a bunch of sockpuppets like Scott Adams. I don’t worry enough about online goings-on to bother creating a separate identity to screw with people.

  3. What’s in a name? that which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet;

    – Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, 1600

    My name is real, it’s just not truthful.

  5. I’d love to be non-anon, but I’ve just had so many problems with it in the past that I’m leery of painting a big target on myself again. Especially as someone who does research on verts. The policy switcharoo is greatly appreciated.
