Bring out your kittehs: contest closing soon!

We now have about 45 entries in the Awesome Cat Contest (see rules here); three winners will get autographed books, and all you have to do is send a photo of your kitteh and a paragraph of 250 or fewer words describing why he/she is so awesome.

The deadline is Wednesday, at 5 p.m. CST (6 pm US EST).

This is going to be a tough one for our celebrity judges; there are many winsome cats and wonderful stories, with some heartbreaks, too.  If your cat isn’t chosen, never fear, for the rest will form a reserve to be posted from time to time. All shall have prizes!

Have you received the photo of my cat Al? My wife is still holding him at gunpoint. It’s your call, pal. Al wins or Al dies.

Checking the entry list, I don’t see any cat named Al. Could you re-send it, along with the paragraph? My university email address is easily found on my University of Chicago website.

It is indeed tough for the celebrity judges. I find that I’m not as brutally heartless and cold as I thought I was, at least not when it comes to kittehs and their humans.

For those of you in the UK there is a Christopher Hitchens interview tonight (Monday) at 7.30 on BBC 2, which will be a ‘must see’. There was a taster on Friday on Newsnight.

Aaarrrghhh! Sure, announce the contest right when everyone is leaving for a long holiday weekend. Couldn’t you have had your surgery some other time? (Hope all is well…)

Fortunately, I had sent in a pic of The wonderful Bryxie and the equally awesome Keeshu when you first mentioned this. Sorry, all you other losers out there.

You should Al’s picture now. You actually have two email addresses online, depending on which U of Chicago site one opens. Apparently I used the wrong one.
Time is running out for Al….

      Yes, we have Al’s entry

So glad you liked the Kitty-chan pan photo, Dr. Coyne! I’m just now seeing that you posted it because I just woke up (I live in Tomorrowland ;-)) Also, I accidentally fell asleep with the kids at 8:00 last night… these things seem to happen with alarming frequency these days…

I live in yesterday land, & that kitty you baked looks delicious!

Hi Mr. Dominic in YesterdayLand! I must ‘fess up–I didn’t bake Kitty-chan. The bakery in our Daiei sells Kitty-chan bread (which Papa sometimes brings home for Cici). I just happened to have the camera with me when I was in there buying a baguette (French bread is popular in Japan, along with German sausages and Mangled English… ;-))

I’m a little nervous about this two addresses business now. Has Phoenix landed safely?

Since we’re apparently using this thread for receipt confirmation…did Baihu make it through okay?

Kink had me intimidated; he is a gorgeous lad– but I sent in a picture of my Calvin, and I hope it gets to the right email address in time.

Still trying to decide on a pic. I’d love to capture both Asherah’s cuteness & dignity in one shot but it’s difficult. Oh and her baby pictures when her ears were bigger than her head are awfully sweet. Will she be disqualified if I send in multiple pictures?

I’ve been told my cat is sure to win if there in the category of “ugly, old, and evil”– (hmph.)

Just sent out Kiki’s entry. Now to feed her before she meows my head off!
