Caturday felid: pastry mimics

September 25, 2010 • 4:01 am

Just a short felid post this morning as I’m on my way to D.C.

Like phorid flies, cats have developed a subtle form of mimicry.  A French subspecies has evolved to resemble croissants, enabling them to hide in bakeries and enjoy the warmth of ovens. The mimicry is astonishingly precise.

  1. Hahah. Oh man, I was going to send you a link to that video but I thought “Nah, that’s too weird, even for Jerry!” ;-D

  2. The baker will come in see the nice croissant then think of making a cheezburgant and proceed to cooking which will enwaken the kitteh. Thus setting the stage for kitteh gets cheezburger.

  3. I’ve been calling the curled-up position the “catssant” position for a while now–it’s particularly cute when we get a double catssaant on the bed.
