  1. “The platform owned by Mariner Energy (NYSE:ME) is in about 2,500 feet of water, the Coast Guard said, and was not currently producing.”

    🙂

  2. I don’t think the Deepwater Horizon oil rig was producing when it blew, either.

At this point no one seems to know how serious this one is. Let’s hope it’s minor.

(Of course we hoped that last time, too.)

  3. One is a tragedy.

Two…well, I’m still waiting for the report as to what caused the first rig to go up.

I’m thinking that oil companies should beef up security at their wells and drilling platforms.

      1. As I said, one is an accident…two…maybe not…three…well, you definitely have a problem on your hands.

Are you saying that it’s a conspiracy theory to think that there are evil people in this world who might view big platforms pulling toxic, flammable material out of the ground as a potential target for mischief?

Are the colors pretty in the universe you live in?

        1. Well…in my universe, digging oil out of depths of hundreds of feet of water is dangerous. Also in my universe, oil and gas are flammable. And in the little bubble where I live, the more dangerous things you do, the higher the risk that something will go wrong. That being as in, you know, having hundreds and hundreds of oil platforms packed in the gulf of Mexico.
That is why “extreme greenies” (words of Ms Palin) like me think this is not such a great idea. But hey, when we do not so wise things and our chickens come home to roost, there must be some shadowy forces behind it.
Because in my universe, human brain is very good at seeing patterns where there are none.

  4. I despise headlines. In point of fact, the platform didn’t “blow up.” Rather, there was an explosion on it. One person injured, no fatalities.

Like when John Cusack said of GOP HQ, “Whey don’t they just open a satanic death cult there and be done with it?” and the Fox headlines immediately screamed “Actor Cusack Makes Satanic Death Threats Against GOP Officials.”
