Sadly, I have no basement.
And not all cats love cardboard boxes. Tamar was a veritable cardboard box magnet, but Baihu has never shown any interest in them, except for one or two that he chewed on a bit.

My cat adoption takes place this afternoon (very exciting!). My whole home will be a wilderness for my new roommate to explore. 🙂

Thanks Diane and Ben. Sweet little Chloe (formerly Doodle Bug) is now hiding under the bed in my newly appointed cat room. She’s a friendly little charcoal and grey. Probably a little stressed out by her new situation. Apparently she was in the shelter for over a year.

Under the bed is a good place for a cat to de-stress. If nothing else, she’ll come out when she gets hungry enough.
At the same time, right now would be a great time to hang out in the bedroom, even on the bed, and just read a book or surf the Web on a laptop or anything else not vigorous. Ignore her, but be in the same room with her. Demonstrate to her, basically, that you’re not going to eat her….
