  1. If a god creates an imperfect thing, that god is imperfect as well. Theists are stuck with that whether they like it or not.

    1. The problem is that religion can make stuff up. And can define perfection appropriately 🙂

A perfect being can create imperfect beings. That some humans are imperfect does not preclude their creator from being perfect. God is good in every aspect, and infinitely so 🙂

      1. Why would an entity that is capable of creating the entire universe be per definition good? Isn’t it more probable that such a being would have the personality of, for example, Donald Trump?

    2. What is the theistic response to this?

If God is perfect, why would he need to alter that perfect reality that didn’t include a Universe and create anything? To make it…more perfect?

And even if you could take a perfect thing and make it more perfect, why is the Universe clearly flawed, as evil exists? “Free will” doesn’t get you out of this, because God could have just created beings that have free will but always do the right thing (like Angels apparently). Or if this was not possible, then don’t bother creating the Universe in the first place. God and his reality was obviously perfect without it before!

    1. But there are perfect numbers (6, 28, …), perfect Rob Roys, perfect idiots, etc. The gods’ perfections are all around us.

        1. Truth be told, a lot of the gods’ perfections do kinda suck; maybe we’re too imperfect to appreciate them.

    2. A bit too meta for me to handle this early in the day. Sort of like asking if a perfect set contains itself (otherwise it wouldn’t be perfectly perfect¹).
      . . . . .
¹ Take that, Saint Anselm of Canterbury (ABoC).

  2. I laugh at the trope often used by the religiously-stricken that atheists are arrogant. Coming from a person who thinks the omni-everything-creator of the universe made them special, loves them infinitely, knows how many hairs are on their head, and grants them everlasting life, whilst those not sharing their faith burn eternally in hell. Talk about arrogance. And think of the arrogance of a suicide bomber.

  3. I often wonder who writes these? They’re excellent.
Says something that whoever he is (I’m presuming male….) can’t put his name to it – or he’d have his life deranged and enjoy a beheading. That says something I think.
Critics of… various religions… (and our editors) have to consider this.
