Hili: The administrator of “Letters” said yesterday he’s going on vacation for a week. I was worried – who would feed me now? And then a miracle happened. The door to our apartment is wide open. The door to Paulina, Julia, and Mariusz’s apartment is wide open too, bowls downstairs and upstairs – full. The window to the veranda roof is slightly open. We can run all over the house. We have to put pressure on him to extend his vacation for the whole summer. Paulina is poking around the Administrator’s computer. She knows the password. We all do, even Kulka. He always yells that awful curse when he starts the computer. Paulina is sitting with Julka on her lap and typing something. For now, just in case, I’m not asking anything. Paradise, don’t end!
In Polish: Administrator „Listów” powiedział wczoraj, że jedzie na tydzień na urlop. Bałam się, kto mnie będzie teraz karmił. I stał się cud. Drzwi naszego mieszkania są otwarte na oścież. Drzwi do mieszkania Pauliny, Julii i Mariusza są otwarte na oścież, miseczki na dole i na górze — pełne. Okno na dach werandy uchylone. Możemy biegać po całym domu. Musimy wywrzeć presję, żeby przedłużył urlop na całe lato. Paulina grzebie w komputerze Administratora. Hasło do komputera zna. Wszyscy je znamy, nawet Kulka. On ten okropny bluzg zawsze wrzeszczy, kiedy odpala komputer. Paulina siedzi z Julką na kolanach i coś pisze. Chwilowo, na wszelki wypadek, o nic nie pytam. Raju, trwaj!
I don’t know Hili. This is new territory for all of us. But hopeful as Paulina has always been very generous and selfless.
I’m happy the cat Hili is still in charge. The cat is always right.

Maybe Hili can help Paulina type? But with the baby on her lap, that might be difficult. Thank you to Paulina or whoever might continue Hili’s thoughts while Andrzej is away. Hili is very important to many people. I know she loves having full bowls and access to the whole house–Kulka or no Kulka. I hope Szaron is also happy with added places to explore. Julia is lucky to have so many cats around!
I hope Andrzej has a nice vacation; it’s certainly well-deserved. Who knows what new mischief the cats will get into this week!

At first, when I read that Julka was sitting in Paulina’s lap, I thought it was the cat, and that Hili had just mistyped Kulka’s name. And then I realized that it was the baby Julia, and that Julka is her nickname!
I hope that Andrjez’s vacation will bring him some joy, after his recent loss.
Not about Hili (sorry, Hili!) but I didn’t know where else to post this. Today is a rather important anniversary, evolution-wise:
One hundred years ago today, a jury in Dayton, Tennessee found High School teacher John Scopes guilty of teaching evolution. (It was a dumb law, but he was guilty.)
There is a Paulina Street in the formerly Polish district on Chicago’s West Side. Interesting how such things can suggest a history.
