Jesus ‘n’ Mo ‘n’ theodicy

The latest Jesus and Mo strip, called, “trite,” is correctly captioned “The idiocy of theodicy.”  Indeed, this is the kind of babble you encounter when you read “sophisticated theology”, as interpreted by folks like Alvin Plantinga or, now, Ross Douthat.  I’m amazed that people actually get paid to make up this kinds of palaver.

  1. Strangely the mysterious moves of God do not confuse those in religious authority over their people.

  2. I entered rabbinical school in 1968 so I’ve been into theology for 57 years. Enough to make anyone crazy.
Probably most of us have noticed the phenomenon of something good happening and the religious person says God is good. If something bad happens, that person generally does not say God is bad.
I’m not taking sides. I’m writing only to agree that theodicy is often a one-way street…or actually, i think it’s a dead end.

    1. Why does (should) it matter to a believer whether his/her God is good or evil? You are stuck with the God you believe in, whether it likes cats or d*gs.
If there are two gods to chose from, one good, one evil and you find out that the evil god created the universe and everything in it, you’re not going to believe in the good one, are you?

  3. For a bit of religious levity or is that deformity and horror, watch “Heretic” with Hughes Grant on Prime. The answer to the one true religion will be revealed.
None of this “mysterious ways” needed as an explaination as all will be revealed.
