Monday: Hili dialogue

Meanwhile, in Dobryzn, Hili is being philosophical

A: What are you doing?
Hili: I’m making a choice between stoicism and scepticism.

Ja: Co ty robisz?
Hili: Dokonuję wyboru między stoicyzmem i sceptycyzmem.

In the Olympics, subtlety can sometimes beat strength:

Sweden’s Truls Möregårdh was about to lose his match in the table tennis when he did this:

This happened in the women’s volleyball (not sure who is playing):

And, of course, the philosophers’ football final was a grudge match between the Germans and the Ancient Greeks:

  1. Hey, this isn’t exactly the minimalist Hili Dialogue I expected, but I like it!

The MP skit is one of their best – 🤣 I only found out about it because I read the Hili Dialogue every day – but it was a real long time ago now…

  2. Always happy to see the Hili dialogue. It gives me hope that my two cats will eventually become more tolerant as Hili is to Szaron now, more like…”Frenemies”

  3. That volleyball move is one that our league would call “the slimy leopard”, for some reason.

  4. A completely unexpected women’s cycling road race win by Kristen Faulkner (USA) by nearly a minute over favorites Marianne Vos (NED – silver) and Lotte Kopecky (BEL – bronze). Two Afghan sisters, Fariba and Yulduz Hashimi competing in defiance of the Taliban ban on women in sports, showed their merit throughout the middle of the race in the breakaway. They first learned to ride a bike at 14 & 17 years old and competed in Afghanistan in disguise since their parents didn’t know they were doing it. When the Taliban reclaimed power in 2021, they escaped on an Italian evacuation flight.

    1. Thank you Patricia. I did happen to catch the American’s final 10k but was not aware of the nice story about the Afghan sisters.

  5. I just saw this: the comic strip “Little Orphan Annie” debuted 100 years ago today. If there are any fans out there, Happy Anniversary!

  6. I have a new Olympic hero, the Netherland’s Femke Bol. What an athlete. Mixed relay 400 finals I had to hold my head while laughing at her outragous performance.
    Man, what style!
