It’s Sunday, and so we have our weekly batch of bird photos from John Avise. Today we have the birds of Finland. John’s narrative and IDs are indented, and you can enlarge the photos by clicking on them.
Finland Birds
My seminar trip to Ireland and Northern Ireland in 2008 included a “side-trip” flight to Helsinki, Finland, to give yet another invited seminar. Although I had only a brief time in Finland, I did manage to have a sauna followed by a quick dip in the Baltic Sea; and also to take a few avian photographs that are the subject of this week’s post.

Ahhhh…
🙂
Nice!
Beautiful, every single one! Thanks!
Gorgeous birds! I love that Barnacle Goose.
These photos are great as always. Those Black Woodpeckers are just massive —- crow-sized in fact — really impressive birds.
I love the Great Black-backed gull. Beautiful photos, as always. The Barnacle Goose trio in flight is especially nice. Thank you.
Spectacular picture of the Sparrow Hawk, every feather seen in perfect harmony, thank you for your pictures, always a pleasure.
One feather on the left wing has a break, though, or the barbs have temporarily detached in that spot on the feather. (I think bird flight is amazing, partly because feathers are so fragile.)
