Apparently the old commenting form was in some way incompatible with “theme” (design) of my site, and so the “Happiness Engineer” at WordPress (yes, that’s what they call them) changed the comment form.
You may find, however, that the order of entering your name and email address has changed, so if you do things by rote, it may screw up. Please follow the instructions on the comment form. It also says, I believe, “Post” instead of “reply”.
So as long as you fill in the comment form correctly, things should work.

Second test: credentials now saved, but so far no sign of first test, a minute ago.
Edit worked fine (can’t spell “credentials”, now fixed!).
