This has to be a pandemic-induced project! It took this woman 82 days and 32,000 dominoes to set up this awesome scenario. You will of course have to watch it to the end if you start, but it’s only 5½ minutes long. I have two questions/comments:
a. Clearly, during the nearly three months of effort, she had to put in some kind of temporary stops to prevent the whole thing from toppling prematurely. But the more you build, the more stops you have to put in. Eventually, you’ll need lots of them, but I’m not sure how that would work.
b. Who cleaned up the dominos at the end and made sure that blocks of a different color were put together?
Oh, I found this video explaining how she did this, but I haven’t watched it yet. Have a good evening.
She clearly has no kitties.
I was gonna put that in the post but forgot.

Such a curious and riveting art form. The patience and skill – and motor control – required are mind-boggling.
I particularly enjoyed the Pac-Man ghost reveal.
That was my thought exactly – OMG keep the cats out!
I had to give up jigsaw puzzles completely; I can’t imagine letting a project like that be vulnerable.

My younger son loves Lily Hevesh. She is one of his inspirations for building his own domino runs and Rube Goldberg machines, along with other YouTube sensations Joseph’s Machines and Sprice Machines.
I recall seeing a video that showed how they put spacers between sections that prevent accidents from destroying much of the project. I guess if I was going to do something like this, I would develop a bunch of tools to make it easier. Like most things, if you take it seriously you can do wonders.
Which leads me to thinking how easy this would be made by adding a little robotics. Practically anything tedious and repetitive is made easier using robots. If someone hasn’t done it with dominos yet, I predict they will soon. Reminds me that SpaceX is going to place thousands of heat shield tiles on its Starship using a robot. It helps that all the tiles are the same size and shape. You may recall that the Space Shuttle’s tiles were all different and had to be placed (and replaced) by hand.
I was amazed at the rainbow double helix and how all the individual color strands fell without affecting the other strands. “Don’t cross the streams!” 🤪
It’s a real shame that the original video isn’t one take, but it was still an impressive set up. At least she is honest enough to post a video of what went wrong, so kudos for that.
Re your second question. Anyone obsessive enough to set this up isn’t going to trust other people not to mix up their doms.
That was unreal. But I can’t let myself fall down the Rube Goldberg Machine Youtube hole again, so I must stop here.
My jaw nearly hit the floor at around 1:25 and stayed that way until the end.
Congratulations to this amazing woman!
She has to have good balance herself and a steady hand, among other skills, to pull that off. Impressive.
Not a record number of dominoes, but the setup is amazingly compact…in her apartment!!! Usually these things are set up in huge spaces. Well done!
Spectacular.
It does make we wonder, though, about the 2,400 downvotes (or whatever they’re called). What kind of person gives thumbs down to a young girl doing something like this??
