Our crack web designer has taken a common readers’ (and my) suggestion on board, so you now have the ability to edit your comments. You’ll see when you post your comment, though, that a little clock starts running beside it. That means you have FIFTEEN MINUTES to edit your comment before it becomes set in stone.
This allows people to correct spelling or grammar mistakes, or fix infelicities of prose, but not to modify comments in light of later comments. That seems like a fair solution to me.
There will be other changes, all of which, I hope will constitute improvements. Stay tuned.
I hope it includes the ability to follow a thread eventually. And I tried out the editing feature for testing purposes and it seems to work. Nice addition.
Working on the threading. . .

I am editing post post.

Yay!
So lets see if this editing business works. Cohen says Trump has no honor, it’s just not there, period. Okay, it worked…..
IMHO, this is the right choice and how other sites work with respect to editing of comments. This sentence was added by editing. Great!
And it freakin’ works!
Yup, 15 minutes seems a great compromise – enough time to correct a stupid typo that you only notice after you’ve pressed ‘Post Comment’.
Let me explain what I think happened. I clicked to edit and then added a few words. The new edited comment was added but the old one was there also. I then edited the old one by deleting it.
My arthritic fingers send thanks.
Fifteen minutes to slay our embarrassments? It’s a mitzvah.

All very good but still not getting weit by email despite, apparently, being subscribed.

Hang on; I’m working on that, too.
Hooray!!
Happy Editmas!

That’s excellent!!! Thanks to all involved in adding this feature. Our comments will be much more literate now…
Is this working?
It is!
Gosh, I hate to nit-pick, but the left and right side bars are given pretty wide blank margins on the far left and right. So there is considerable screen space not used on the sides. This is true for both Firefox, Safari, and Google Chrome.
But I really like what has been done so far!
I tried the site with 4 browsers and Firefox is the best. All the others have both left and right sidebars squishing in the smaller text in the middle.
This must be tried out.
It appears to work!
The best addition to the functioning of this web-site!
Hooray!
testing
I like the ability to edit idea, but it doesn’t seem to be workable as I don’t see my posts
showing up once submitted, so I couldn’t edit them if I wanted to. Anyone else with this problem?
EDIT: Oh…post showed up! Great. Here’s my test edit.
Ugh, I just realized why I can’t see the posts to edit. My posts all go in to
moderation, which is why they still don’t appear when I post. (Though in the previous site version, I did see the post appear immediately even though it said it was in moderation). Sorry ’bout that…
Looks real good. And edit works. A real improvement.
Good news. I often cringe, when I detect a mistake in a comment but cannot correct it anymore. It irritates me.
Thanks Jerry and the mystery webmaster!
