Jesus ‘n’ Mo ‘n’ “Islamophobia”

May 22, 2019 • 10:00 am

Well, here we go again: another Jesus and Mo strip that the Pakistani government will eventually deem “blasphemous,” forcing WordPress to block this post in Pakistan. So it goes:

Today’s Jesus and Mo strip, called  “tax”, has this caption:

The story behind the problematic new definition of Islamophobia is here.

That story gives the definition of “Islamophobia” by the APPG (all parliamentary party group) as this:

The APPG’s definition, which was proposed in a report in November, says “Islamophobia is rooted in racism and is a type of racism that targets expressions of Muslimness or perceived Muslimness”.

Note the problem: conflating bigotry against Muslims with “target expression of Muslimness”, which could be Islamic doctrine itself. As the National Secular Society (NSS) reports, there are objections, expressed in an open letter to Home Secretary Sajid Javid:

The NSS’s chief executive Stephen Evans was one of a diverse range of 44 campaigners, academics, writers and other public figures who signed the letter.

The signatories included representatives of the think tank Civitas, the Council of Ex-Muslims of Britain, the Network of Sikh Organisations and Christian Concern.

NSS honorary associates Richard Dawkins, Pragna Patel, Maajid Nawaz and Peter Tatchell were also among the signatories.

And the strip, in which Jesus commits Islamophobia:

    1. “Trypophobia is an aversion to the sight of irregular patterns or clusters of small holes, or bumps”. You’d have trouble as a bee keeper. 😎

      1. I am not a big fan of large round shower heads either and these tend to be fairly regularly configured and spaced holes.
It is somewhat inconsistent and difficult to explain. Swiss cheese is not a problem as the holes tend to be few and quite far apart usually. Honeycombs depending on shape are also different as in formal hives they are again usually square or rectangular and it is the circular arrangement which is the root of the problem.
It is wierd. It does not significantly affect my life. For years i did not know what is was.

        1. Hey, I have that! Didn’t know it was a thing either. Stuff like shower heads don’t bother me, it’s usually organic structures. Like the irregular “cells” (don’t know the real word) in an orange segment, I also recall a mud wasp nest that was filled with paralyzed spiders. It wasn’t the spiders that freaked me out, it was the maze of the next filled irregularly with those little brown blobs. Can’t think of any other examples right now. Cool to know this. And like you, it doesn’t adversely affect my life. Still a strange mind thing though.

  1. Why. Did. You. Just. Do. This. To. Me.

Now I keep feeling itches everywhere and am terrified. Seriously, bugs scare the shit out of me. This is horrifying.

    1. Man I really wish I didn’t read this.

And I know my reaction isn’t rational. I can’t help it.

  2. You are continuing the spread of racism by depicting God’s so called son as a white man. Racism will not be eliminated until we REMOVE ALL RACIAL IMAGES THAT ATTEMPT TO PORTRAY THE DIVINE. Underline the word attempt. Since color doesn’t matter to atheists the next cartoons for the whole year should depict your satires as Sudanese black.
