True facts about the Bolas spider

March 21, 2019 • 3:00 pm

ZeFrank1 has a new video with his trademark combination of fact and snark. The Bolas spiders are groups of orb weavers that has an amazing way of hunting, but I’ll let you see it in this short video, which is biologically accurate. There’s not only fantastic hunting behavior, but some amazing bird-feces mimicry.

  1. Excellent video. I watch everything with subtitles and was amused to see they left off ‘tiny’ from the text before erection (in reference to the male moth).
Spiders are just amazing. With butt stuff, apparently.

  2. This is my …

    Orb sub

    YEAAHHHHHH!

That’s my bad memory of a meme that old people like.

  3. The “florida man” thing has been spoiled. Google is now filled with “Try the florida man challenge!” I got nothing for my birthday.

And, yes==zeFrank, I am hot for. Love Anglerfish vid in partic.

  4. If you haven’t seen the one on the Mantis Shrimp, it’s a must watch. The Oatmeal has a great cartoon about the Mantis Shrimp that goes well as a companion piece.

The bright side of the internet.

  5. OMG That’s my spider! Seriously; filmed in our backyard by Laura Hughes in 2015. Our spider makes her appearance ~2:33 in the video. As part of the Ohio Spider Survey Rich Bradley and I hunted historical sites reported in a 1924 survey. After many searches far and wide this species was found in our backyard. Since then we have found an additional 2 more species. The survey has increased species count for Ohio from 306 up to >600. We have documented ~160 just in our 1.3 acre home. Bradley has more info on this spider and since Jerry and Da Roolz forbid promotion of other sites I’ll just say that those clever enough can find more info elsewhere 😉

      1. Yes, “mum”.
Second video comes with a “violent” warning. So if you’re a snowflake…😬
