Jesus ‘n’ Mo ‘n’ Pakistan

September 12, 2018 • 10:00 am

PCC(E) is in Davis, California, having left the coast to briefly visit his old haunts. I should be back in Chicago by Saturday morning.

The new Jesus and Mo strip, called “index,” comes with a note and a link, which I’ve also put below:

Yes, we’re talking about Imran Khan.

The article in question (click on screenshot from the International Business Times):

An excerpt:

Addressing the Senate for the first time, Pakistan’s newly elected Prime Minister Imran Khan has vowed to take the issue of blasphemous activities to the United Nations.

“In the name of Freedom of Expression these westerners don’t realise how their blasphemous activities hurt the sentiments of Muslims all over the world,” the PM said on the announcement made by the leader of Dutch Freedom Party and Parliamentarian Geert Wilders to hold a competition of blasphemous caricatures.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office had called Netherlands Chargé d’Affaires to record a protest against the announcement by Wilders to hold a competition of blasphemous caricatures.

Let us remember, because I can’t forget it, that this website is entirely banned in Pakistan, with the ban enforced by WordPress itself (an American company), simply because I published a Jesus and Mo cartoon on Twitter.

  1. “Welcome to the United Nations, sir, please take a number and have a seat in this area here under the OCC sign for Offenders of Cartoon Characters. We’ll be riiiiiiight with you.”

  2. Aw, diddums. Someones feelings got hurt so “we must do something”. Never mind that so many around the world don’t have enough food, decent health care, education, water, the list is endless. No, lets concentrate on the really important things.

  3. “sentiments”

… let me try again :

    “sentiments”

    yeah – sentiments!

    sentiments sentiments sentiments

    SENTIMENTS

Or how about everyone’s favorite trick :

    stnemitnes

… mmmm, that wasn’t too interesting… ok I’m done, thanks.

  4. One of the most dangerous circumstances in the world today is that Pakistan — for all its corruption, illiteracy, and poverty; for all its internal pressures from radical Islamists and external conflict with its neighbor India — has The Bomb, thanks to the nefarious machinations of A.Q. Khan.

    1. W h o o o o a, Mr Kukec. Inside the World
just how many others are there … … with such nuclear capability … …
as thus: “he believed wholeheartedly in
his own greatness. In his middle age he had
become a fleshy, banquet – fed man, unused to
criticism and outrageously self – satisfied.
Accompanied by his security detail, he would
go around Pakistan accepting awards and words
of praise, passing out pictures of himself,
and holding forth on diverse subjects —
      science, education, health, history, world
politics, poetry, and (his favorite) the
magnitude of his achievements. As befits such
a benefactor, he would also give out money,
of which he seemed to have an unlimited
supply, despite the fact that he was a
      government official with a government
official’s salary and no other obvious means
of wealth; he bought houses for his friends,
funded scholarships, set up his own private
charity, made large donations to mosques, and
bestowed grants on Pakistani schools and
institutions, many of which duly named
themselves or their buildings after him. To
understand Khan correctly — which to some
degree is to understand the spread of nuclear
arsenals beyond the traditional great powers
      – it is necessary to recognize that his
largesse was not merely a matter of self –
      aggrandizement.”

What century .is. this one anyhow ? !
      So dismayingly frightening this is.

  5. This condemnation was on August 28 and two days later Geert Wilders canceled the contest because of the threats of violence.

      1. “crucified” … … which is how those of us who
have been put in to a padded cell
against all reason therefor … … also
        feel.

Especially when … … we are not, again,
arisen. But are, instead, … …
        ruined.

  6. Imran Khan uses the outlaw of “mischaracterization of holocaust figures” by a few European countries as a comparison of “drawing Mohammad” hurting Muslim sentiments. How about cartoon figures of Jesus “hurting the sentiments of Christians”- I don’t hear an outcry on this issue. Khan is playing to Islamic orthodoxy.

  7. “these westerners don’t realise how their blasphemous activities hurt the sentiments of Muslims all over the world”
“These Muslims don’t realise how their repressive activities (not to mention the murderous ones) hurt the sentiments of atheists and secularists all over the world”, so there.
I feel deeply for these poor fragile Muslims with their hurt feelings. Kasian Muslims!

  8. And I thought Imran Khan would be a good PM.

This is not the first time a Muslim country has called for a worldwide ban on blasphemy re Muhammad, and only Muhammad, in the UN. It’s done regularly. Most countries either support it (there are a lot of majority-Muslim countries out there) or abstain (so they don’t upset the majority-Muslim countries). One of the good things the US uses its excessive power in the UN for is to regularly speak out against this and ensure it doesn’t happen.

    1. I suspect the target audience for these proclamations is the local masses(constituents). They want to see their supreme leader espousing maximum anger in the name of their god of love. Remember the guy was voted into office by a population that hears every week from a priest of the faith barking Quranic doctrine.

      1. I expect you’re right. It wasn’t the extremists who voted for him, it was the moderates, so he’ll want to be doing stuff to get the extremists on side.

    2. Let’s hope he’s just using it as some cheap virtue signalling (or moral grandstanding if you prefer).

He was a hell of a bowler, and helped develop reverse swing, without which Jimmy Anderson would not have just broken the record for most test wickets by a pace bowler. So I can forgive him a fair bit.

      1. He was a brilliant bowler, though I must admit it was partly his looks that got my attention in those days.

  9. these westerners don’t realise how their blasphemous activities hurt the sentiments of Muslims all over the world,”

We understand. We just don think that should make it illegal. Honor killings, on the other hand, we think should be illegal.

Because hurt sentiments result in hurt sentiments, while murder results in death.

  10. Allah doesn’t give a damn about blasphemy. Allah doesn’t give a damn about anything; not about Muslim refugees drowning at sea, nor children being raped.

The only people who are upset about “blasphemy” are theists who feel it incumbent upon themselves to speak for a god who clearly fails to “speak” for them.
