How do you take a cue from something that doesn’t exist?
Projection.
Imran Khan uses the outlaw of “mischaracterization of holocaust figures” by a few European countries as a comparison of “drawing Mohammad” hurting Muslim sentiments. How about cartoon figures of Jesus “hurting the sentiments of Christians”- I don’t hear an outcry on this issue. Khan is playing to Islamic orthodoxy.
Khan has taken the silly mid off position, without a helmet or pads, which is just plain dumb… but then again, cartoons can do that to you.

And I thought Imran Khan would be a good PM.
This is not the first time a Muslim country has called for a worldwide ban on blasphemy re Muhammad, and only Muhammad, in the UN. It’s done regularly. Most countries either support it (there are a lot of majority-Muslim countries out there) or abstain (so they don’t upset the majority-Muslim countries). One of the good things the US uses its excessive power in the UN for is to regularly speak out against this and ensure it doesn’t happen.
I suspect the target audience for these proclamations is the local masses(constituents). They want to see their supreme leader espousing maximum anger in the name of their god of love. Remember the guy was voted into office by a population that hears every week from a priest of the faith barking Quranic doctrine.
I expect you’re right. It wasn’t the extremists who voted for him, it was the moderates, so he’ll want to be doing stuff to get the extremists on side.

Also a place where religion is required for office (in some cases?). I read that to be President of Pakistan (I think) it is explicitly required to be a Muslim.
Let’s hope he’s just using it as some cheap virtue signalling (or moral grandstanding if you prefer).
He was a hell of a bowler, and helped develop reverse swing, without which Jimmy Anderson would not have just broken the record for most test wickets by a pace bowler. So I can forgive him a fair bit.
