Go to this site, “Stretchy cats are on display for this Japanese meme“, to see the latest fad in Japan: stretching one’s cat. Here are a few examples from many (I wouldn’t necessarily try this at home:

BuzzFeed has an article called “25 tweets that prove cats are a) hilarious and b) the best“. I agree on both counts. Here are a few of the 25.

A door-opening cat (a dog couldn’t do this!):
h/t: Michael, Snowy Owl, Michael B.
The cat opening doors is very good. It use to be you would say this door would be in Europe not in the U.S. However, today you do see some doors with handles or levers here.
I would have thought handles versus knobs would be a function of the grip of the residents, not a nationality thing. Not that I’d use a door with latches instead of spring clips anyway, except on a lockable door.
I much prefer handles.
When I was a student, taking a “practical” class in machining, in which one got one’s hands oily, the only place to wash up was in the mens room, which had a big and extremely stiff brass doorknob. Try turning that with oily hands!
Some architect or building maintenance manager should have been shot for that.

Now that I think of it, I can’t think of a single (room) door anywhere on any boat which had a knob instead of a handle. Then again, every door also had a kick-out panel so you could escape in the event of the structure warping sufficiently to jam the door in it’s frame.
We had a cat when I was a kid that could open a door that had a round doorknob. The door fit loosely so it wasn’t too difficult, but still pretty impressive. No container of water in front of the door though.

Very clever of the cat to open the door, but we have two dogs who can do the same. Please don’t generalize.
Obviously the d*gs had been trained by cats.
I love Eli McKenzie’s cat. Cats’ brains are just… strange.

Is it me or do most of these Japanese cats look like the same breed? If so, why?
I used to stretch my cat in a similar fashion. Not a bother to her.
My kitties have all loved to be stretched. I hold them under their arms, though, and lift them up. They put a lot into it.
I had a cat who opened handle & latch doors. My parents lived a few houses down the street. She’d walk down and let herself in the front door. The maids called the police one day cuz they thought there was a burglar.
One day I caught her trying to turn a knob.
She also used to ‘answer’ the phone by knocking the receiver off the hook.
