A Simon’s Cat Thanksgiving special

November 23, 2017 • 1:30 pm

Here’s a short new Simon’s Cat animation called “Fast Food (a Thanksgiving special)”.  The two moggies team up to steal an entire Thanksgiving dinner! It’s curious, though, since Simon lives in the UK and I didn’t think they had Thanksgiving there.

May the rest of you have good noms today!

  1. That’s fast food alright. Gone fast. They probably learned about Thanksgiving when the Pilgrims wrote back or maybe emailed them.

    1. Yeah, cos none of us foreigners can read; nor are we capable of fully comprehending the concept of other countries having public holidays based on events in their own history (let alone revisionist history). That’s why we all know that what you call “Independence Day” is really just a late midsummer festival. I bet your George Washington Day is just an early spring festival. You guys just can’t get your days right.

      / :-p

  2. I have not lived in the UK for the last thirty years. No it does (did) not have Thanksgiving.

The equivalent was sort of the Autumn Harvest Festival in late September, where people, at least used to, donate to the local food banks etc.

And of course we have missed the Canadian one.

  3. As an atheist I do not give thanks to God for anything, but I do like to give thanks to the people who make my life happier and richer throughout the year.

And I thank you PCC for your daily posts which have enlightened and entertained me. I know it is a lot of work for you, but it is much appreciated. Likewise, I thank the many knowledgeable commentators who have added valuable content for me to read and ponder.

    Now, back to that turkey.

    1. by the despicable, conservative, plastic ‘Little Englander’ & poor man’s Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Littlejohn – who happens to phone in his vile bigotry from his Florida home.

      1. Well, wherever he phones it in from, I find that Littlejohn speaks robust common sense on most issues, including in this case the absurdity of British people celebrating Thanksgiving.

        1. Littlejohn has bigged up a non-issue as is his tendency when he has to get out another column of nonsense & has no material. Outside of Black Friday sales there’s no thanksgiving celebrations of note occurring in the UK.

** Working age, employed people are mostly at work

** School children had their ‘half term’ school break four weeks ago & don’t get their next break from school for four weeks. Today & tomorrow are normal school days.

** There’s no sporting event tied to this imaginary UK ‘thanksgiving’

** My online grocer [Sainsbury’s] has no food promotions at all relating to thanksgiving – I searched ‘Turkey’ on their site & it’s about ordering a bird for Christmas. If you search ‘Thanksgiving’ there they oblige with a list of 28 food items with no discounts nor menu suggestions.

** The same grocer has one ‘Black Friday Deals’ page of 11 items only – available in-store [not online]. It amounts to a cheap hi-fi, a couple of TVs & that’s about it

      2. I find the matter even more amusing now that you’ve characterized him thusly. Having written that piece, he must be enjoying turkey and giblets in Florida right about now. I had no idea who he is when I read the piece, and notwithstanding that what you say about him is, I’m sure, an accurate representation, I think it’s pretty funny, and skewers Americans far more than Brits.

        1. I like the idea of a Thanksgiving feast except it’s too close to Christmas, on the two occasions I’ve experienced it the green beans [as provided] were overcooked & bland plus I don’t watch TV! 🙂

Over here we could do with a blowout around the 3rd week of February to break up the long featureless trek of approx 13 weeks to Easter. We could tie it to U.S. President’s Day – 3rd Monday in February! Littlejohn & his freaky Daily Mail fan club can have orgasms of outrage – everybody happy being unhappy, the UK sport.

        2. P.S. I suspect the green beans both times were from a can or bottle – travesty! I’ve noticed that fresh veg produce supply is patchy in parts of the US & maybe that’s the problem. Dunno.

In the UK fine green beans imported from Kenya are very popular. They can be eaten raw & barely need cooking to form the basis of a jolly good, toothy thanksgiving ‘side’ [with olive oil, onions, almonds, thyme, lemon & seasoning of course]. Yum.

          1. Thanksgiving out of a can is no way to celebrate, IMO, unless one is in dire straits. Canned green beans are only a cut above canned peas, which, to me, are the worst. But fortunately, fresh vegetables have made a comeback over here, so I doubt that you’d be subjected to canned green beans or peas. I brought up the matter only because yesterday morning, when I scanned the BBC News site, there was an article about Thanksgiving that seemed to be written for Brits who wanted to celebrate Thanksgiving, as opposed to ex-pats. That set me searching as, for obvious reasons, I hadn’t heard of it being celebrated over there. Then I found that Littlejohn piece. I’m always looking for good satire, and that caught my eye. That aside, I’m very glad that you made me aware of Littlejohn. And I will certainly try your recipe for fresh green beans, sounds delicious.

  4. Sure, like that’ll ever happen! When did any cat give thanks to a human for giving it food?

  5. The only aspect of Thanksgiving that I’ve noticed in the UK, is the so-called Black Friday sales that start today [Thursday]. I’ve read that it’s now the biggest discounted sale of all the sales in the UK calendar. Good deals on Amazon.UK

No evidence at all up here in the Midlands, UK of people splashing out on a Turkey ‘n’ trimmings + couch potato sports binge – it’s a normal work day. They might do things differently in that fancy pants London of course, but that’s abroad really innit?
