Although the Cincinnati Zoo has had some bad press on this site, most notably when it hired a chiropractor to adjust the spine of a baby tiger who was “failing to thrive,” it also turns out some nice animal videos. So enjoy this baby black rhino (Diceros bicornis) having its very first mudbath.
Baby rhino’s first mud wallow

That’s great. Long ago when I was around the farm and the hogs (pigs) were raised outside, in the open, much more than today, we would keep a muddy area for the pigs. They really liked getting all muddy just like the rhino.
I’m struck by how the baby looks like a miniature copy of the adult – except for the horn of course. In many species, such as Homo sapiens, the juveniles start with very different proportions and gradually evolve to resemble the adult.
A suitable song for the subject of mud wallowing:

The words are included in the Youtube comments section, so you can even sing along.
Its actually called the ‘Hippopotamus Song’, but who are Darwinists to split hairs over a tad of genetic diversity?
