  1. But how many of those 49,545 are cats? Since each cat has to be multiplied by nine, then only 7 cats already subscribed would put you over 50 K.

  2. I keep track of this site via an RSS feed that displays on my browser home page along with other sites through a web service called igHome, so if I understand this properly, I’m not counted among the almost 50,000 subscribers.

Apparently if I was to subscribe I’d add to the count, but that would also unnecessarily stuff my email box without actually increasing the number of readers of this site.

I suspect that I’m not the only regular reader who is not a “subscriber.” I’m not sure what to make of that, aside from the conclusion that the number of readers of this site probably exceeded 50,000 a long time ago.

    1. It seems to me that after you subscribe, you can select whether or not to receive notices of posts and comments. I think you could subscribe, decline receiving posts in email, and suffer no ill effects to your mail box.

When I post comments on a computer or browser I have never used before, I get two check boxes, one for receiving notification of new comments in email and one for notification of new posts.

  3. As I mentioned in another post about this, I’ve tried to subscribe several times, but it never takes. I’ve checked my filters, etc., but there’s nothing there. It doesn’t really bother me since I check the site daily, but it’s likely that I’m not the only one and that more people have tried to subscribe than your numbers indicate.

    1. @R Gern You are doing something wrong, but I can’t tell what the problem is because I don’t know what “…but it never takes” means 🙂

This link explains THREE ways to “follow” a wordpress site:
      https://en.support.wordpress.com/following/

Note that in WordPress settings you can control the frequency & type of notifications of new posts [instantly, daily or weekly]

    2. @R Gern

Although your “filters” remark suggests to me you mean you’re “following”, but not getting email notifications in your inbox. See your settings for that [if you’re logged in to WordPress]

  4. I didn’t know who you were until I heard Matt Dillahunty mention your name and your book on his Atheist Experience show a couple months ago. I have since watched many of your youtube episodes. I’m a long term atheist. My wife hates when I tell people I’m atheist. It embarrasses her. She claims to believe but she doesn’t walk the walk, she just talks the talk. I think she’s a closeted atheist, just afraid to step off that cliff. I subscribed last week.

  5. I could not figure out how to subscribe in the past. Today, there was a pop up in the regular post suggesting that I
    subscribe. The link worked perfectly.
