Just when you think Trump couldn’t get any worse. . .

July 2, 2017 • 5:34 pm

. . . he emits a tweet showing him beating up a wrestler representing CNN (the Cable News Network), which our President labels as “fake news.” (And yes, I know it’s been videoshopped or whatever they call it.)

The man is unhinged, and an embarrassment to every citizen of America. This is our elected leader?

I can’t even. . .

  1. What will he say when a journalist is beaten up or even killed by a crazed Trump-worshipper, because he is surely inciting violence, and has from the beginning of his campaign (for instance, when he was asked what would happen if he didn’t get the nomination he said “there would be rioting in the streets”). We in Australia look on incredulously at his antics, and we all thank the gods that we don’t live there.

    1. He’ll say nothing, or he’ll say nothing for a sufficiently long period of time that his supporters will get the message, just like he did after the Portland murders. People like you and I keep making the mistake of wondering where his red line is when in reality he doesn’t have one.

People are instruments to him. If they can be used great; if they can’t…well, why should the farmer care how the spade feels?

    2. What will he say when a journalist is beaten up or even killed by a crazed Trump-worshipper,

      He’ll cheer.
Excuse me, I have to get some rotten tomatoes from the market, to be prepared for his rumoured visit to Scotland.

      1. Please don’t. Stay away. And I hope your compatriots do the same. Being ignored is something this buffoon can’t take.

  2. That’s the “realdonaldtrump” alright…but his minions will love it.

          1. That’s the joy of persistent cookies.
Next time you use her laptop, try opening a session in “private” or “anonymous” mode (terminology varies between browsers) ; that should avoid such faux pas. Alternatively, get hold of a (decent quality, decent size) USB drive, put “portable” versions of browser, mail client, whatever you want on it, and use that on borrowed computers. That certainly worked well for me on client’s computer systems.

    1. The blue circle with a tick-mark on the Twitter profile indicates that Twitter has – somehow, I don’t know how – verified that the account is genuinely controlled by the publicly-known person in whose name it is.
From the “realDonaldTrump” name, I deduce that someone else who really does have the name “Donald Trump” registered an account called “Donald Trump” before the Bully-in-Chief, and has (so far) resisted efforts to make him release that valuable name.

  3. I never think Trump can’t do something worse because he always does. This clip (the original) turned up during the campaign where he just attacks this guy and pounds him. Didn’t give the faithful any pause, and they probably wished he was pounding Clinton. Why, in the world popularity contest, are we somewhere about as popular as North Korea? Make us grate again.

        1. But is it as classy as Bill Clinton getting a blow job from an intern in the White House? No that’s real class. Right?

          2. Why does the fact that someone else has done something bad make any difference to whether or not Trump’s behaviour is an embarrassment to the US? And if you think lewd sexual behaviour is the low mark of presidential behaviour then Trump is right there with his bragging about grabbing women “by the pussy”, making lewd remarks about his own daughter and so on. Who would be in the slightest bit surprised if it ever comes to light that he has accepted blow-jobs from women in less powerful positions than himself?

    1. Another sample of President Dump the Greatest, Biggest, most Repulsive, Sleazy Selfish and Venal ever. After ruining US healthcare and throwing a spanner in climate stabilisation efforts he’s bought a large slice of the last untouched parts of Bali and will convert into the most monstrously kitsch theme park imaginable following deals with cronies of the former dictator Suharto.

  4. Are you still “just starting to wonder” if this freak is mentally deranged or was this tweet a tipping point for you?

I’m confident that even more most damning evidence is yet to come. If this didn’t do it for you, hang in there a little while. He’ll come through for ya!

    1. Nope. It was a racist from Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/user/HanAssholeSolo/

This is not the first time he has retweeted things from white supremacists: http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/gop-primaries/276919-trump-retweets-another-apparent-white-supremacist

      https://thinkprogress.org/donald-trump-retweets-nazi-sympathizing-white-supremacist-5fa55d36b02e

I am astonished he has and continues to get away with things like this. I can only hope that history will judge the Republicans who support him harshly. This alone should be disqualifying for the presidency in 2017. Not to mention the host of other things Trump has done worthy of disqualification…

      1. I find it reassuring to think that history, as it has been done over the last five hundred years or so, will not look kindly on him or his supporters; but that is only reassuring if the world continues to be a place in which there is some kind of relatively honest, objective long-view of history. And right now that kind of historical consensus-building and commitment to cataloging truth feels like it is under threat.

    2. Re: this video, I saw on Twitter someone say basically that Trump is incapable of finding, downloading, and reposting this video and it “must have been Uday or Qusay” trying to get Daddy’s attention.

I had not heard of Don Jr. and Eric Trump referred to as Uday and Qusay before, but it’s fucking perfect and I’m going to start using it.

      1. Uday and Qusay are a reference to Saddam Hussein’s sons, right? (Saif Gaddafi was in the news recently too, at least in Europe.)
Saddam’s daughters Raghad and Rana had the good taste to defect in 1995 (and the poor sense to return to their husband’s deaths in 1996, followed by another defection in 2003), so to parody Ivanka-the-undefected … no, the third daughter Hala also defected in 2003. So there’s no obvious parody for Ivanka.
Looking for other potential parodies … Idi Amin’s family is a bit obscure; Falstaff too lightweight. I’ll let the braincell stew on that question.

  5. And of course they’ve found the white supremacist who originally posted the clip to reddit.

I fear an impending blow up in the Middle East soon. And this f***ing idiot is meeting with Putin.

People always talk about how authoritarian he is, but it is too rarely noted how submissive his body language and speech becomes when he meets a man whom he perceives as being more powerful. I recall how he told an interviewer that he set up that meeting with the Russian diplomat/spies because “I had to — Putin asked me to” — as if it must be obvious to everyone that it wasn’t for him to say no.

Whatever it is that fills the power vacuum in world politics — in the space the US vacated in January — will be far worse than anything Trump does.

      1. It’s strange Craw. You’re unendingly loquacious when it comes to obnoxious left-wing students being ridiculous. When it comes to the president of the USA slowly morphing into a dictator, and posting a video of himself beating on a symbol of the liberal media you suddenly become rather terse and defensive. You’re just running up against the line that separates apologetics from everything else.

        1. Well Saul, I remember when the meme was Trump’s the new Hitler. This sort of buffoonish behavior doesn’t remind me of Hitler. Dictators have an inflated sense of their own dignity from what I have seen.
It’s certainly petty. But one thing it isn’t is Trump morphing into a dictator.

          1. Dictators most certainly to make silly entertainment as a distraction from what they’re doing behind the scenes. It’s been happening for millenia.

Look up the phrase “Bread and Circuses”.

          2. I don’t think posting a single video is evidence of his dictatorial instincts. I don’t think I said it did.
On the other hand, his overall behaviour; the institutions he has chosen to attack and isolate, the way he reacts to criticism, the people he chooses as idols and the people he sees as enemies, the repeated exhortations to and defenses of violence on the part of his supporters during the campaign; is entirely characteristic of a dictator. The only thing holding him back are the various state institutions that he has non-coincidentally chosen to smear and lie about, and undermine through legislation.

And since you brought him up, a “buffoon” is exactly how the more complacent/sympathetic politicians and pundits described Hitler, almost until the very last minute.

      1. At this point, I’d take Pence. I really don’t think he’d win re-election. Has any VP ever had a successful run after a failed Presidency or resigned President?

      2. To that I always say, “One at a time.” Also remember that sanctimonious lying SOB Pence doesn’t have the fan base of Dolt45. Plus, he was so unpopular in Indiana that he wasn’t going to run again.

        If he couldn’t get re-elected in Indiana…

      3. I’m not exaggerating when I say that I would take any other Republican over him. I would literally rather they got the nearest phone book, picked a name at random and installed said civilian in the White House. There would be more than enough advisers and civil servants to help the newly installed Joe Bloggs get through his or her term, they would probably know more about politics than Trump, and statistically speaking they would almost certainly be a better human being.

The Greeks did(something like) it with ‘sortition’. Which up until November 9th of last year always seemed like a daft idea. But then again, so did buying up plots of land on the moon and investing in companies that make nuclear bunkers. Lots of things seemed daft before 2016 came along.

      4. No this is wrong. If you remove Trump from office you get blood in the streets and anarchy. This is because there is no legitimate way to remove him from office. Petty and buffoonish tweeting is not an impeachable offense, and it’s not a sign of dementia either. Personally I think this tells us nothing about Trump that we didn’t already know.

        1. There is a legitimate way. He could be indefinitely hospitalised for mental illness. And the sort of aggression he is apparently displaying behind the scenes, and now on Twitter, is a symptom of some forms of dementia as well.

          1. I have seen delerium masquerading as dementia in patients Trump’s age and older. It reverses quickly, when the stressers causing it can be addressed. Move Trump from his home in NYC, and he instinctively knows to bounce back and forth to Maralago to retain any bit of control over his brain. Put him in a psych ward and he’ll really lose it.

Incidently my observations regarding delerium have allowed me to help those suffering from it, but I do not expect this has been researched and published in any peer reviewed journal. After all, the cases I initially learned from were geriatric hip fracture patients stuck in a hospital for 4 to 9 days, awaiting insurance approval before they could undergo surgery. Their signs manifest and grew over that period, then receded in half the time, after their surgeries. Surgery isn’t the only stress capable of doing this, though.

          2. I know very little about mental illness, but I suspect that you’re right. He himself said he didn’t expect the job to be so difficult. Basically, he just can’t cope, and the irrational behaviour and all the rest is partly brought on by that, and partly by his own character/personality. He’s spent too much of his life surrounded by sycophants for a start.

          3. No, that is not a legitimate way. It is a pretextual way. Trump is an ass, but he is a sane ass.

          4. It would be legitimate if he were mentally ill. But I think he probably is same, just not normal.

          5. It depends. The term sane, I don’t think, has a precise definition. He is a rather striking instance of someone with clear symptoms of some kinds of psychological abnormality. In the end, only full incapacity (as in a major stroke) will convince the republican congress to take any action on the issue.

          6. In many places “sane” (and “insane”) are more correctly *legal* terms concerning whether or not someone can stand trial. Since Trump is (not yet?) in the docket, he has presumably not been assessed that way, and hence is technically not sane or insane.

          7. Though I am neither a psychiatrist nor a psychologist, in my medical opinion as a physician and surgeon, Trump is not within normal limits. His behaviors and his words suggest serious mental issues, starting with a dangerous lack of insight.

    1. And what would that be? Do you mean impeachment? Surely with the make up of Congress that is just not going to happen.
I know the systems of government are different but the Realpolitik of self preservation and naked ambition are surely the same. It is becoming clear that PM May will not survive the Tory Party Conference in October. The men in grey suits will hand her the revolver just as they did Thatcher in 1990. There surely must be “grandees” in the GOP who are able to play the same role.

      1. I know where you’re coming from, but the Tories are nothing if not self-interested, and I would bet that the men in grey suits would sooner have a Maybot that they can control than someone else (Boris? Davis? Leadsom, god help us?) who is even more likely to lose Parliament and precipitate another election.

As for GOP “grandees”, there is an interesting article in the (London) Times today by Justin Webb about a lunch allegedly arranged by Reagan’s key aides in 1987 to determine if he was still capable of holding office. On the basis of his lunchtime repartee, they decided that he was. So it can be done. Bring it on.

  6. I think of the men and women risking their very lives for a military engagement that never ends. And I ask myself, if I were in their boots what I would be thinking about my country’s leadership. Would I be asking, ‘What am I doing here…?’

    1. Exactly. And they should have known that anyway. I might recommend a book for all those who are thinking of joining up – America’s War For The Greater Middle East by Andrew Bocevich.

    2. Are the military still managing to recruit new cannon-fodder? And retain them?

  7. What happens when a reporter is hurt or killed? When is it ok for a sitting president to portay violence against any american he disagrees with. Is this not enough to remove him from office? Is this not a blatent threat against our free press. And where are republican leaders on this? Are they so fearful of Trump they cower in fear from this symbolic attack on our very democracy? I am not feeling very patriotic this July, more like fearfull and angry.

    1. No they are fearful of his supporters. How do you think all those Trump voters will react at the mid terms if they perceive the Republican congress pushed out their hero?

  8. I keep hoping I slipped and hit my head on election night, and that all of this is a very bad dream. I’ll awake from the coma soon…

  9. There’s many of us here in Australia who have been wanting to cut our ties to the U.S.A. for a while. It seems to be even more imperative when the leadership is so obviously deranged.

(Read Malcolm Fraser’s book ‘Dangerous Allies’ and be concerned by his prescience on the topic.)

  10. What will it take for Republicans to stop supporting him? I fear the answer is “nothing”.

    1. I was wondering about that. I think it would literally take the threat of mass violence on the street. Nothing else will wean them off the Trump-voter tit.

  11. Ms Ana Navarro of CNN, GOP strategist and
ABC commentator this morning w Ms Martha
Raddatz, paraphrased but not by much:
FLIP / REVERSE: Picture the baby – man
conducting the USA Presidency day to day with
this violence as, instead, conducted by a
woman’s and man’s man named Mr Barack Obama.
WHEN HE was USA’s President. During any
minute or moment of his tenure. Then, too,
FLIP / REVERSE what Republicans of any stripe
anywhere ‘d be doing and ‘d be saying. Then.

    Ms Navarro =Trump’s tweet is i n c i t e m e n t
to violence. “He’s Going to Get Somebody Killed.”
Ms Navarro is correct, o’course. She is steadfastly not normalizing this “seven – year – old bully” as she named him.

And Ms Navarro on Homeland Security Adivsor
Mr Tom Bossert’s defense of this specific one
“modern presidential / make American great
again” – tweet: ““I am disappointed beyond
belief by the answer that the homeland
security adviser just gave,” Navarro said.
“What a wuss. What a wuss. You could see that
he is ceding his principles. You are the
homeland security adviser and you can’t stand
here and say the difference between right and
    wrong.”

    Blue

      1. Read the comments…there is no hope as reality and truth no longer exists. Time to find another country.

  12. Sometimes I think he is trying to get impeached…or at least create some excuse to resign. Shit like this reinforces my theory. What else is his motive? Or if there is no motive, the culprit is derangement (which is certainly the more credible theory)? Everyone knows he hates being prez unless he’s doing a propaganda rally or signing some horrific executive order.

I hope the GOP’s reluctance to do anything meaningful to condemn this wreck of a human being brings their entire brand down. What are independents (the largest block of US voters) thinking?

At least these antics keep Congress from moving forward on their draconian agenda of helping those who need no help.

The damage to America’s influence and image around the world is going to have unforeseen ripple effects. Black Swan event is a comin’.

  13. Sociopath DT (Donnie Boy)—the man was appointed by the criminals in the electoral college to rule us, his sycophantic cohorts in the Nazi/Fascists gop, and the criminals he has appointed to his cabinet are doing their best to destroy the Earth and wipe out humanity in the name of profit—what did you expect—beautiful blue skies and a rose garden?

  14. At least Buzz Aldrin gives an appropriate warning before he punches a guy:

  15. Yes- Trump is a bad joke, but the ones to fear are the Christian Republicans who are helping him tear your country apart.

  16. Agree with Collins, some of us who had the misfortune to watch the debates looking for concepts recognized then this was a start.
Now I go back to reading Pigliucci’s new book and try to have stoic forebesrsnce, trusting wiser legislators will soon drag us out of the morass.

  17. Trump is a master of distraction. He’s surely unhappy that the failure to repeal the ACA is big news and his impulse is to create a side show.

  18. Does this video really incite violence? We have an obviously faked video of a fake sport in which Trump defeats someone he has accused of fake news. Agree or disagree with it, this is a message about fakery rather than violence.

    1. That is an utterly absurd, context-free piece of denialism. A single piece of background information: a Guardian journalist got the shit kicked out of him by a pro-Trump Republican not long ago for asking questions said Republican thug didn’t like; further, you know full well that thirty seconds on google would bring up a long list of the various approbative statements this smirking goon has made about violence against the press, or against protesters.

I said this a long time ago so this latest slew of rancid behaviour from Trump is hardly a tipping point in that respect, but it seems to me that he is essentially indefensible to any reasonable person.

      1. Yeah and a republican congressman got shot by a Bernie supporter shortly after a prominent democrat called for “blood on the streets” and a CNN contributor held up the bloodied head of the president. Don’t pretend this is one sided.

        1. I didn’t say it was one-sided at any point, so don’t put words in my mouth. I’m all for balance. But balance would conclude that Trump is responsible for the atmosphere as it is now. It would also note that he is the president. Some people would say holding that office is not consonant with behaving like a vicious, thuggish thirteen year old bully.

Nor am I going to locate the most reasonable political position on this issue as perfectly equidistant between ‘it’s all the fault of the liberals’ and ‘it’s all the fault of the right’.
On the issue of violence against the press and protesters the Trump-right has been consistently and overwhelmingly, almost criminally, irresponsible at best. This is not the case with the ‘fake news’ outlets Trump has made it his mission to destroy. CNN is not Fox News, Seth Meyers is not Sean Hannity and Colbert is not Alex Jones.

          1. Edit: “…but balance would conclude that Trump is _mainly_ responsible for the atmosphere as it is now.” There are other actors who have contributed, but none are as influential, or powerful, or consistently thuggish and despicable.

  19. Actually of course he isn’t your ‘elected leader’. That was Hilary Clinton, but your electoral college installed Trump.

    1. “Elected”.

I do not think that word means what you think it means.

    2. Sigh. Of course the proper quote was different, I blame it on lack of morning coffee:

      “Elected.”

You Keep Using That Word. I Do Not Think It Means What You Think It Means.

I also wanted to add that it is fine to keep pointing out the distinction between the majority opinion [and the number that actually voted] and electoral result. But it is unnecessarily divisive and conspiratorial to imply that it was not a lawful election.

However you feel towards the current laws and the result. Added to that, Trump is also barking up the same tree for reasons of his own.

We do not need more division with Trump behaving as he [always] does.

      1. But it is unnecessarily divisive and conspiratorial to imply that it was not a lawful election.

Of course, the Trump backroom boys are working on using implication of wrong doing to promote disenfranchising large numbers of voters. Their difficulty is in working out the demographics to fit the requirement to reduce the number of non-Trump supporters in important areas.
Gerrymandering – a great tradition of democratic politics since … do our Classics scholars have some examples of gerrymandering in Periclean Greece or Republican Rome? I’m not sure if the enfranchisement of the Equsites (sp?) in Rome around 100BC fits the bill, or if my vague knowledge of Roman history is playing up.

      2. But these elections actually were stolen on prima facie evidence.
Not mentioning the gerrymandering, not mentioning ‘Cross-check’, not mentioning ‘provisional votes’, etc., the very discrepancy between exit polls and count in the swing states -except Virginia, where a Dem was in charge- should be enough to look at the results with a very jaundiced eye.
(One should note that this discrepancy between exit polls and count was enough for the US to reject the Ukrainian elections)

  20. I saw footage over the weekend of Trump speaking at some evangelical church and getting fêted as if he were Jesus F. King Christ in person. If it were not so tragic, it is hilarious that these apologists for one of the biggest collections of fake news in human history, the Bible, cope with their cognitive dissonance so well.

Scholarly footnote: Bart D. Ehrman, religious studies professor at Duke, says 13 of the 27 New Testament books (that’s 48%) are forgeries, by virtue of their making false authorial claims.

  21. What I find astonishing is that there seems to be no one to “advise” or control him.

Any normal intelligent person would find this behaviour abhorrent which means that “normal” people in the White House has no influence over the Homo Erectus.

    1. I’ve read that he often does the opposite of what his advisers recommend, just to prove that he’s the boss and no one can tell him what to do. He is truly an 8 year old boy in a man’s body.

    2. I’m fine with this, as the one thing that would be worse than a petulant Trump would be one the Republicans could freely manipulate and later blame for the negative consequences of anything they do, which seems to have been their plan.

    3. The science office in the White House has not been staffed by the president. Apparently there was some residual staff, but I see a report that, just now, the office has been vacated by the last staffer. It is now empty. No one speaks for science in that building. That’s terrifying.

      1. Whomever spoke for science in the Trump White House, before, probably recognized that speaking isn’t the same as being heard.

  22. In 30 years time there will be a Life on Mars reboot set in today.

Or at least, let’s hope it’s that and not a Game of Thrones reboot.

  23. “The man is unhinged, and an embarrassment to every citizen of America. This is our elected leader?”

Problem is you are a snob. Plus you do not understand middle America.

This class disconnect is a threat to the republic because it denies legitimacy to the incumbent and shows disrespect for the office he holds.

Whether you like it or not Mr Trump is the President of the United States, probably for two terms because he is the least objectionable of the candidates and their parties.

    1. Middle America. Selfish, uneducated, ignorant, prejudice. That is what America wants to be. So be it. Let them have it.

Local communities with educated, diverse, liberal, secular ideas will persevere. Science is only known to those who actually know science.

Trump is good for Middle America, probably necessary. He makes them feel special. And I prefer not to have clans of hidebound genocidal bigots rampaging with their assault weapons wiping out all the brown people because they think Jesus was a white man.

      1. because they think Jesus was a white man.

Is that the Jesus of the Bible who was a brown-skinned observant Jew and probably had a nose you could true grindstones with? Or some “fake Jesus” invented in the 8th-10th centuries in Western Europe?

        1. Can’t resist nit-picking here.
The earliest depictions (pre 4th century) have Jesus young, fair skinned, white robed, golden haired and appearing to wave a wand.
          Appollo revenant.

    2. What a rude comment. Snob? It is snobbish to point our the ranting of an deranged boor? A deranged boor who is the President of the United States? That office is supposed to be imbued with certain respect, with dignity and care in what is said and done in it’s name. A president is NOT like other people. A President doesn’t get the luxury of being an ass; because his or her words matter. They have impact. They reflect on the policy of the country. And this POS is grabbing pussy, calling people names and posting juvenile nonsense.

      Snob? Go to hell.

          1. Well, we are atheists; maybe you were just suggesting a visit to Scandinavia where more polite atheists presumably live. 😉

          2. Haha! I retweeted this:

Canadians are polite but they are not nice. They drink. And they will cut your throat. My God, how do you think they survive on the prairie?

          3. “how do you think they survive on the prairie?”

            Royal Canadian Mounted Police?

      1. That office is supposed to be imbued with certain respect, with dignity and care in what is said and done in it’s name.

Does the US constitution actually say that (not my country)

And this POS is grabbing pussy, calling people names and posting juvenile nonsense.

Well, he’s not changed from his pre-election persona then, has he? To misquote the Maggon (may her non-existent soul writhe in eternal torment), “The Boor is not for turning!”

        1. “Does the US constitution actually say that (not my country)”

No, of course not. It also doesn’t say he shouldn’t kick puppies or urinate in public.

        2. It is amazing what hatred (some of? much of?) the Left displays towards anyone who does not share their political ideology.

I despised the late Tony Benn for his hypocrisy (the man who was utterly opposed to inherited wealth and tax avoidance schemes, but nevertheless used such a scheme when leaving his £5 million pound estate to his children), but did I hate him? No. Would I want him to “writhe in eternal torment”? No.

If there is a Heaven and Hell (which I sincerely doubt) then I would very much want the old chap to be in Heaven. What kind of human being could really want someone else to suffer “eternal torment”? Perhaps you should consider whether you would be happy to suffer the same if someone else had the power to make you do so, simply for disliking your political views?

  24. What is there in this that would not have appeared in either a pro or anti Trump political cartoon with a different caption depending on bias?
Perhaps because it was Mr Trump and not one of our favourite cartoonists?
Maybe it is something to do with so many critics describing him as a cartoon President. If so they were right, so why do they expect any better behaviour?

    1. I can’t believe this is even a question. I am sick of Trump apologists pretending this behavior doesn’t matter.

Why do I (at least) “expect better behavior” from trump?

Because he is the President of the United States. That’s why. Full stop. The fact that he is unable to behave in a way that befits that office means he neither understands nor cares about the role that office plays in our nation and before the world. That makes him unqualified, in a way never seen before in our history. Beyond all his other personal failures and inadequacies the utter disregard for the office, and by extension, the American people and its government makes this man a disgrace to the office, the nation and the species.

      1. Being a Brit Labour supporter I’m hardly a Trump apologist neither do I particularly care for the office of American President.
However, I suggest that since his campaign began we have seen that the more a character like Mr Trump is vilified the more he will respond in this fashion.
Also being narcissistic he probably takes more notice of his profile in the media ratings than his political profile.
After all, in five years time and (hopefully) out of Office, he will still be a media star.

  25. I watched a report on German TV yesterday about the 150 anniversary celebration in Canada. They said that more and more US-Americans consider to move to Canada because of Trump.
Is this a triumph for Canada but a tragedy for the United States? I do not know.

    1. Actually it’s neither. It’s people bullshiting to get attention. It’s also insulting to Canadians, to blithely assume we would want them.

    2. Honestly, every time the Republican party does well in an election there is a lot of talk from liberal Americans about moving to Canada. But it is just talk – I am not aware of an actual significant movement of Americans to Canada since the Vietnam War draft era. Back then there actually was.

      1. Canada is a whole other country and people who threaten to come here don’t think about the whole immigration process. The same with Canadians who threaten to go to the US. I think our undefended border and similar culture makes us all forget this. Even during Bietnam, Canada initially turned back deserters. Later they changed their minds and didn’t ask. I do personally know people I met professionally who came to Canada under Bush.

What is happening now is refugees coming to Canada from the US in fear they will be sent back. They have done this at great personal cost during winter, losing fingers and toes. Many Americans haven’t learned of this as the Canadian border is usually of little interest unless its portrayed by some ignorant Non border state politician in the US as the thing under attack by some third world country called “Canada”.

        1. Losing fingers and toes? That is horrible! It is no little thing. I am sorry they felt compelled to do it this way, and I hope they are able to recover on every level as much as is possible.

          1. Here is a link to this story. The two men who suffered severe frost bite, were granted asylum and given refugee status in Canada, thank goodness. It would really suck to go through all that and not get it. The guy that lost a bunch of fingers was, understandably, very depressed about that.

  26. Ugh, Trump is really the living embodiment of everything that is wrong with culture and politics these days.

On the other hand, the Democrats are about to pick a safe House district to anoint Linda Sarsour to run in and win (that’s a prediction), so it’s clowns to the left and jokers to the right.

    1. This makes me sick. Absolutely disgusting behavior by the organization. Always archive because these organizations will edit and not detail what their edits were. They already tried to change the story on twitter.

For the record, I don’t see the problem with the joke to begin with. It’s an edit of a wrestling show playing on a rivalry between Trump and CNN. How that could be construed as incitement to violence baffles me.

    2. Even Republicans were tentatively on CNN’s side over this issue and then they go and do something stupid and awful like this.

Free advice: When Trump’s rolling around in the mud, you point and laugh, not dive in.
