Speaking of snipe (see previous post), can you see this one? Yes, this is a real snipe hunt, not a bogus one inflicted on young campers. The photos come from Stephen Barnard in Idaho, with his notes indented. Click photos to enlarge; reveal at 11 a.m. Chicago time.
1. Extremely difficult. Nearly impossible in my opinion, although the bird is clearly visible, if not visually identifiable. I knew it was there because I heard it calling.
2. Much easier.

Nope, couldn’t see in any of the pictures. What a smart bird huh? π
I see 4-5 possible snipes in the first one. Is that good?
The 2nd one was easy for me.
If you are seeing 4 or 5 I think they call that bird brain.
I see it in the second photo, not in the water.
Tweet!π
Found it first in the second photo. That made it easier in the first photo.
I almost didn’t try, remembering the earlier “find the pelican” photo that Stephen offered us. That one was impossible, IMO.
The first nigh of Boy Scout camp (summer of 1962?), I was sent on a snipe hunt. As I recall, the hunt required a flashlight, a paper grocery bag, and my middle finger vigorously thumping the bag while I sat in the darkest part of the woods. The hunt was unsuccessful, but this may be where I learned how to take a joke.
Very much like sending the new guy at the airport out to get a bucket of prop wash.
And I understand that a new batboy on a major league baseball team is likely to be sent running out onto the field to find out which umpire has the keys to the bullpen.
I genuinely think I have it in the first one now.
I always come to these after the reveal but I look first anyway. As per Stephen’s evaluations, the first one was impossible for me, the second a piece of cake. π
