Tigers versus drone: no contest!

February 25, 2017 • 2:30 pm

Here’s a bunch of Siberian tigers (Panthera tigris altaica: there’s only one species of tiger; all the named versions are subspecies) in a Chinese “tiger park” being photographed by a drone. Although they’re largely fat and out of shape, they take the gadget down handily in the last bit of the video.

I wish they didn’t fence in these magnificent beasts, which have large territories in the wild. Perhaps they’d go extinct without this kind of captivity, but sometimes I think that would be the best alternative if they or their descendants can never be put back in the wild.

  1. I read another news story which reports that these tigers are on a tiger farm where the tigers are kept to be slaughtered.

    1. If this practice keeps the species surviving, it’s worth it. Cattle are far from an endangered species, but how many species of totally-wild cattle can you name? As to whether a long-“domesticated” species can be successfully returned to the wild, have you never seen or read “Born Free”? For that matter, have you never heard of feral dogs, cats, pigs, goats or horses? The only people who seriously think that death/extinction is better than being domesticated are the PETA perverts, and they’ve been declared “domestic terrorists” in several states — for good reason.

    1. I just read this follow up about the sad state of these beautiful animals . . . seems almost inevitable that anything like this has a dark underbelly . . . what a shame!

  2. This makes me ill. Perhaps these most magnificent creatures can hold out unti human become extinct.
