Today is the anniversary of NBC’s Today show (1952), the Casablanca Conference in WWII (1943) and an accidental explosion on the USS Enterprise (1969). No, not that one. It’s also the birthday of Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters fame (1969).
Over on the other side of the world, Hili is usurping the role of the laws of physics.

Yes the Today show joined ABC in it’s race to the bottom of what might be left of journalism on morning TV. If one wants any morning news on the large TV screen CBS provides the only remaining shot.

The Foo Fighters are HIV/Aids denialists and were big supporters of Christine Maggiore – including throwing a benefit concert for her bullshit organization Alive and Well.
The Foo Fighters are garbage and shouldn’t be celebrated in the least.
This is why people hate liberals. I’m not allowed to like a song because the band said something disagreeable 17 years ago? Virtue signal received, loud and clear.

They also ripped off Dio’s “Holy Diver” in one of their latest singles (“Something For Nothing”). So the fact that they can barely write original music is another reason not to listen to them.
Well, if it makes you feel any better, though I’d heard the name “Foo Fighters” for I-forget-how-long, this is the first opportunity to come my way to actually know what their music sounds like.
It lasted barely 30 seconds before they fitted right into the “don’t bother again” category.
Not a big Foo fan myself.

Are they though? Certainly their support for LGBT rights and provocation/trolling of the Westboro Baptists suggest they (and Dave Grohl) may not be as bad as you’re suggesting. Have you considered that they may just have made an unwise choice in their charity gig schedule?
If you’re that adamant that they’re shitheads, you would’ve done your homework, which would’ve shown you that 1) It was mostly Nate and the others went along, and 2) They completely withdrew all support and have since been lending that support to organisations that benefit people experiencing HIV/AIDS. Sooo doesn’t wash.
I like the Foo Fighters well enough, but I especially loved it when the city of Cesena, Italy hosted the Rockin1000 to entice them to come and perform a concert in their town. Thanks for mentioning the fire on board the USS Enterprise in 1969. I was the ship’s ordnance officer at the time, and so would have been directly involved in the incident, except that I was ashore at the time of the explosion (as one of the pilots of the ship’s aircraft I had been sent ashore the night before to pick up the inspection team which was to conduct the operational readiness inspection of the ship prior to it deployment to the Western Pacific theatre for a 6-month tour). needless to say, all traffic to and from the ship was cancelled and I had to await the ship’s limping back into Pearl Harbor to see the extent of the damage. I was proud of my flight deck crew that day, who gave everything they had to minimize the damage and help the wounded. 27 men were killed that morning and over 300 injured. Most of the dead were pilots who had just manned their planes in preparation for the first launch of the day, and were trapped in their planes. In spite of the damage, after a 6-week emergency repair in Pearl Harbor the ship sailed west for a successful deployment and returned home that summer, followed by a trip around Cape Horn to Norfolk for it’s second refueling and full repair of the damage from the explosion. The ship was too wide to fit through the Panama Canal, so it had to go east by the long route, during the southern hemisphere winter, too. Interestingly, we were in Rio (our only port of call on that trip)when Neil Armstrong landed on the moon.

Fascinating history! I’m a fan of all things maritime; I’ll have to look into this incident more deeply.
If you want more details on the 1969 explosion on Enterprise, I suggest the book “Trial: Ordeal of the USS Enterprise, 14 January 1969” by Michael Joe Carlin, 1993. I doubt it is still in print—it was self published by the author, whose address, at the time of publication, was P.O. box 98, West Grove, PA 19390. On my reading,I found no details that were contrary to my understanding of the event, so it appears to be reasonably accurate.
