B-day treats for the squirrels

In honor of the last day of Koynezaa, all my squirrels get an extra ration of peanuts today. I’ve taught most of them to take the nuts from my hand, though there are still a few shy ones out there. But here’s the usual regimen:

  1. when you think of it, peanuts are ground nuts and walnuts, pecans etc are tree nuts so their preference makes sense. For me, too, tree nuts are way better.
Happy New Year, rodents, felines, canines and most humans

  2. Last time I was out at the ranch where I board my horse (and where Barn Cat lives), there was a windfall of pecans to collect. Most of them were too small for humans to enjoy (too much work for a small reward), but they were perfect for the squirrels that visit my backyard. There are very few pecan trees in my neighborhood, and the “imported” nuts disappeared quickly! Lots of pecans remaining for the squirrels out at the ranch, with at least a dozen mature trees near the barns.

    Happy birthday PCC(E)!
