I doubt I’ll be writing more about the election, at least for a week or so—or perhaps indefinitely. In the meantime, Stephen Barnard of Idaho has sent me some new readers’ wildlife photographs. His caption:
Bull elk (Cervus canadensis) — the biggest and baddest of four bulls in the field across the creek.

Majestic!
Yes, and they come together to fight over one thing…animals.
Beautiful animals. What camera and lens was used to pull them closer Stephen?
Nice stand of aspen in the first.
The first photo was taken from my backyard and the elk are about 1/3 mile away. The other two were from about 100 yards. All taken with a Canon 5D3, a Canon 500mm f4 II, and a 1.4x extender for 700mm (full frame). The aspens in the first photo are part of about a 20-acre stand of mature trees that enclose two ponds. It’s where the eagles nest.
Excellent pictures, Stephen!
Wonderful to see the elk.
That elk rump is a darn sight more attractive than a certain tangerine horse’s ass.
he certainly looks like a powerful animal… i like the aspens in the background in the first pic.
That bull is mature but young. The veteran bruisers have thicker antlers (but maybe with fewer points). He’s in prime condition. I don’t see any wounds or any sign of lameness. The mature bulls are big — about the size of a horse.
